Bleugrass Chevre {Facebook}{Website}

Fayette County

We're gonna be really "cheesy" on market opening day.  Along with our chvre, feta and Bloomin' Bleugrass, we're cooking up a brand new venture -  grilled cheese sandwiches with cheeses exclusively from the market.  This week we'll have a classic oozy-gooey sandwich with gruyere, Swiss and cheddar on extra crusty pane bello bread, plus a cheddar and bacon combo using Hood's Heritage Hogs bacon.  Travis Hood is one of the market's new vendors and his pigs have been eating our whey and leftover cheese for the past few months.  Seek out his freezer-filled truck and let him tell you about raising Red Wattle Heritage Hogs the "bluegrass whey."

See you at the market!

Blue Moon Farm {Facebook}{Website}

Madison County

Greetings friends of Blue Moon Farm and LFM!!

With a lot of hope (and not much conviction) we announce the end of winter!  Finally!!  The trout lilies are blooming on the hillside, and they're right on schedule!  We hope you all came through the nasty weather in good shape.  It certainly was a bear!  I'm sure we all have stories about it to share, and this weekend will be our first chance! The official kick-off weekend of the 2014 Lexington Farmers' Market!   It looks like both days will be nice, cool spring days.  Find us Saturday downtown on Short St, approx. 7AM-2PM, and Sunday on Southland Drive 10AM-2PM.

Due to the appalling winter weather conditions, our opening offerings will be light on homegrown produce, but full of lots of yummy foods, seasonings and soaps.  The BABY GREEN GARLIC will be along after a few more weeks, but right now it's just TOO small!!  Stay tuned!

We will have bunches of our beautiful DAFFODILS, our locally famous GARLIC SCAPE PESTO, and GARLIC POWDERS to re-stock your larder as well as goodies from other local farmers.........

Hydroponically grown GREENS from Vibrant Greens, our friends in Madison County.  BIBB, ROMAINE, RED LEAF LETTUCES, ARUGULA, KALE and MIZUNA.

Pastured raised PORK from Stone Cross Farm in Spencer County, including all your favorite EUROPEAN SAUSAGES, BREAKFAST SAUSAGE, BACON, CHOPS, ROASTS and more!  The ITALIAN SAUSAGE recipe has been reworked, and is out of this world!!  We'll also have their great CHEESES, and there are some new varieties to try!

Grass fed/grass finished BEEF from Colcord Farm in Bourbon County. We're having an OPENING SPECIAL on their SHORT RIBS at $3.50/LB (reg. $4/99/LB).  Good deal!!  Here's a yummy recipe to try- http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/11/braised-short-ribs-heaven-on-a-plate/   Check out all our beef prices!

Of course you'll find Sunrise Bakery's BREADS and PASTRIES!  It's been a long winter without those GARLIC BAGELS!  Come remember how delicious they are!  CINNAMON BUNS, MUFFINS, CROISSANTS, and all different kinds of ARTISAN BREADS for school lunches and dinner tables.

Something new and different for this year........TORTILLA CHIPS!!  They are made for Sunflower Sundries of Mt. Olivet, from the heirloom corn they grow on their farm in Robertson County.  Coming soon we'll also have their CORN MEAL and GRITS!

Stone Cross Farm's wonderful HANDMADE SOAPS will be back in all different varieties too!

We'll start off bringing just a few of the heartier HERB SETS while the weather is still cold in the early mornings.......maybe some MINTS, PARSLEY, ROSEMARY, THYME etc.

We are so looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces this weekend!  Let's get back to it!!  See you there!

Boone Creek Creamery {Facebook}{Website}

Fayette County

We will have our cheeses at the Market this Saturday.

Our cheese is made from all natural JD Country Milk, a family owned Mennonite farm in Logan County. The cows are pasture grazed and never given any antibiotics or hormones. Instead they are fed a vitamin enriched diet and all the grass they can eat. The milk is not homogenized and is pasteurized at just 145 degrees, then quickly cooled to preserve the natural flavor and enzymes that Mother Nature intended. We think the milk tastes better because the cows are happy.

You won't see hydraulic presses and fancy modern equipment in our micro-creamery. Instead, we make our cheeses by hand using traditional European techniques to protect the delicate curds. This is a lot more work and very time consuming, but we believe it creates better cheeses with rich complex flavors. We hope you agree.

This week we will have over a dozen different cheeses available. Stop by and sample our Butterkase (Amish Butter Cheese), Mama Mia, Sassy Redhead, Tuscan Sun, Smoked Cheddar and of course our bourbon infused Kentucky Derby. Oh, and don't miss the Caerphilly, a tangy traditional Welsh coal miners cheese.

Thanks for your support. See you at the market.

This Sunday, we will be featuring two of our standard Fair Trade offerings, Peru Cajamarca and Sumatra Mandheling, as well as a limited release roast from Burundi. Stop by and see us for a freshly roasted and brewed cup, and pick up some beans for home. We're looking forward to seeing you!

Quarles Farm {Website}{Facebook}

Shelby County

This year the winter has certainly been one to try a person's patience.  We're starting seeds for the garden and hoping that we can find weather favorable to prepare ground for planting.  In years past we've already had peas, lettuce, beets and many other veggies planted.  Not so this year.  But rest assured that when the time comes, planting will begin and things will escalate to a frenzy on the farms.  Right now our barn is bursting at the seams with new lambs and kids with more still to be born.  We're looking for some nice weather and drier pastures to turn the newborns out to become acquainted with the great outdoors.

We continue to be down on Cheapside each Saturday with a good supply of goat, lamb and beef, all raised by us on our farm.  This is some of the best meat that you will find in this area.  Safely and humanely grown, we do our best to bring you the best.  You can try our ground beef in a burger, brat or hot dog straight from the grill at the market.  We're also serving breakfast each morning with plenty of hot coffee or chocolate to warm you up.

There's plenty of canned goods on the table; salsas, relishes, jams and jellies.  These are canned goods made with wholesome fruits and vegetables, canned with no corn syrup, artificial preservatives or flavorings.   Food that tastes good and is good for you.  Breads are available each week.  They're great for a brunch on Sunday or take one to work on Monday.  It'll make the day a little brighter.

Check us out at our website  or visit us on Facebook . We try to keep folks up to date on what we're doing and how you're food's grown.  Our food is your local connection to healthy eating.
