Exploring Innovation in Community Development
In 2015, the U.S. Department of Justice began releasing roughly 6,000 inmates from federal prisons as part of an effort to ease overcrowding and roll back the harsh penalties given to nonviolent drug offenders in the 1980s and '90s. The majority of these ex-offenders will return to low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and communities of color where unemployment rates are already high. While employment is essential to establishing a productive life and is at the root of dignity and self-sufficiency, a criminal record is an employment barrier that is not easily overcome. Exploring Innovation in Community Development Webinar is a series that allows community development professionals from across the Eighth District to connect with industry experts to hear and discuss current developments and initiatives. Hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, the series' topics will vary and be of interest to economic development professionals, financial institution representatives, community advocates, and policymakers. Mark your calendar for the first Webinar in the series on Thursday, January 21, 2016, which will highlight successful re-entry solutions for former inmates. Time is Running Out!
KHC is interested in feedback regarding how the Kentucky Homeless Management Information System (KYHMIS) is working for you and what improvements are needed to work better for your agency and your community. To accomplish this, KHC has engaged the Institute for Community Alliances (ICA) to create a survey, analyze results, and assist in creating an action plan for 2016 that will enhance the overall use and effectiveness of KYHMIS. To get a comprehensive understanding of your agency's use of KYHMIS and its effectiveness for your agency, we are requesting participation from the following:
- KYHMIS Enrolled Agency Executive Directors
- KYHMIS Participating Project Supervisors
- All KYHMIS End Users
The deadline to complete the survey Sunday, January 31, 2016. ICA takes your privacy and anonymity seriously. All answers will be aggregated and reworded to maintain confidentiality before sharing the information with KHC.
