Historic Milestone for KHP
KHP-style loans get the thumbs-up from Wall Street
Unless you read the finance section of The Wall Street Journal, you may have missed the news! Last week, something momentous happened in the world of residential energy efficiency. The biggest names in finance provided over $12.5 million, to show their willingness to invest in KY Home Performance (KHP)-type loans.
KHP and Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) are pioneers in a partnership called the Warehouse for Energy Efficiency Loans (WHEEL), which is a collaboration between major financial institutions, state energy offices, and a small group of forward-looking organizations dedicated to bringing low-cost, large-scale capital to residential energy efficiency programs. Kentucky's First Lady Jane Beshear called WHEEL "a perfect example of public and private entities working together to help make a positive difference in people's lives."
KHP contractors make the "positive difference" described by the First Lady every time a KHP loan replaces an old HVAC system or monthly bills decrease due to energy improvements to a home. Last week's precedent-setting transaction will pave the way for more progress in the months and years ahead, as superior contractors are connected through programs, like KHP, to ever more attractive solutions to meet the needs of their customers.
