KYHMIS Training Dates
Kentucky Housing Corporation (KHC) has scheduled Kentucky Homeless Management Information System (KYHMIS) trainings for June, July, and August. All trainings will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. ET, in KHC's computer training room of the west annex, located at 1231 Louisville Road, Frankfort. Seating is limited and available to registrants on a first-come, first-served. To attend a KYHMIS training session, users must submit a Training Request Form no later than three days prior to the session to ensure space is available.
The KYHMIS New User training dates are as follows:
June - Tuesday, June 2, 2015
July - Tuesday, July 7, 2015
August - Tuesday, August 11, 2015

New KYHMIS Training Videos
A series of seven training videos are now available for new or current KYHMIS users. These videos total approximately two hours of content, including details on how to remain compliant with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 2014 Data Standards when entering client data into KYHMIS. These videos can be found on KHC's YouTube training channel.
Additionally, a series of three training videos are also available for the Advanced Reporting Tool (ART). These videos total approximately 50 minutes of content, including "Using ART and Running a 625," "Running a 631," and "Using Input Controls." These videos can also be found on KHC's YouTube training channel.

KYHMIS Continuing Education Credit
To better serve partners, KHC is implementing new requirements for KYHMIS continuing education. This change will help agencies save staff and travel time by substituting face-to-face training with online training.
Previously, KYHMIS users were required to attend at least one training session in person each year. The new process requires KYHMIS users to watch all seven training videos, mentioned above, then complete and submit a survey. Once KHC receives the completed survey, the user will receive credit for completing the annual continuing education requirement. These videos can be found on KHC's YouTube training channel.
KHC is not currently offering regularly scheduled KYHMIS refresher training sessions, but will continue to focus on training new users. To maintain a KYHMIS license, users must complete the continuing education requirement annually, per our External Policies and Procedures.

HUD Clarification on Documenting Homelessness
The Housing Contract Administration Help Desk received a question asking for clarification regarding documentation of homeless status for clients entering Permanent Supportive Housing programs. In the past, HUD required documentation of homeless eligibility status the night prior to lease up. Now, while clients are locating and securing a permanent unit, they can be temporarily housed in transitional programs, in hotels or motels, or stay with friends or family after the initial homeless status is documented, and do not need to re-document their homeless status at the time of lease up. |

KYHMIS Staff Changes
KHC would like to announce changes in staff administering the KYHMIS. The following staff changes are effective immediately:
- Carol Anne Sell is returning to the KYHMIS arena and will assume the primary duties of overall system administration, system updates, and reporting.
- Anne Colly Rose will become the KYHMIS trainer, beginning with the new user training in June.
- Lena Columbia will be the main contact for invoicing and will continue to serve as the main KYHMIS contact for Recovery Kentucky projects.
- Anne Colly and Lena will share responsibility for resolving HelpDesk tickets.

VI-SPDAT Now Available
In February, the Kentucky Balance of State (BoS) Continuum of Care (CoC) Advisory Board voted and adopted a pilot implementation of the Vulnerability Index and Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (VI-SPDAT) as the BoS CoC's Coordinated Assessment tool.
The pilot project will impact the way both CoC and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funded agencies operate. KHC highly encourages all BoS CoC partners and their staff to start using this tool for triage of housing needs for their clients.
The BoS CoC Advisory Board will be formulating policies, procedures, and an evaluation tool during the June meeting. All meetings are open to the public.
The VI-SPDAT is open and available for use in the KYHMIS. The VI-SPDAT information will be shared based on previous visibility and security settings for your agency. The VI-SPDAT assessment can be found at the bottom of the client summary page within the KYHMIS.

VETT Program Vouchers Available
KHC and HUD are taking steps to end veteran homelessness in Kentucky by the end of 2015. The KHC Board of Directors approved dedicated housing assistance for 100 homeless Kentucky veterans to be available immediately through the new Veterans Emerging Towards Transition (VETT) Program. This effort supports the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness, announced by First Lady Michelle Obama in June 2014.
Through the VETT Program, KHC will designate a preference for 100 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) for qualified homeless veterans in the 87 counties KHC serves under the HCV Program. This special assistance will help qualified veterans pay for housing and, ultimately, reduce the number of homeless veterans in Kentucky. Through KHC, local service providers will coordinate the completion of certification checklists to be used as referral tools to qualify homeless veterans for the housing assistance.
The VETT Program referral process is as follows:
- Agencies or local elected officials can nominate a veteran for the program. You will need to work with the veteran to complete the Homeless Veteran Certification, as well as the KHC Tenant Assistance Programs Preapplication.
- Agencies should check the list of committed Mayors and/or County Judge Executives to identify if your local leader has committed to the challenge. If so, ask them to complete the Challenge To End Veteran Homelessness VETT Voucher Designation Form. This form allows them to delegate authority so you may submit the necessary paperwork to KHC. If they prefer to make the reference themselves, you can help them complete the necessary Homeless Veteran Certification form, as well as the KHC Tenant Assistance Programs Pre-application.

Kentucky Homeless Veteran Housing Resource Guide Released
The HUD Kentucky Office released a new Homeless Veteran Housing Resource Guide, available on HUD's website. This resource guide outlines, by county, the different types of housing assistance available, as well as information on accessing that assistance.
The resource guide is in support of the Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness by the end of 2015.
"No veteran who has served our country should ultimately be homeless, jobless, or without medical assistance," said HUD Kentucky Field Office Director Christopher Taylor. "This resource guide is offered to help all homeless veterans and their service providers help them find safe, decent, and affordable housing."
To date, more than 225 local elected officials in Kentucky have pledged their support for the Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness. For more information on housing homeless veterans, please contact the HUD Kentucky Field Office at 502-582-5251, and press '0'.

CoC Regional Meetings
The Kentucky BoS CoC will conduct a series of regional CoC meetings in May 2015. HUD Louisville Field Office Director Christopher Taylor will be a featured guest at the Regional CoC meetings to discuss the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness.
