Profiles in Performance:

Warren Heating and Air

Paducah's Home-Grown Energy Expert is in High Demand

An Old Hand at the Whole House

Steve Warren and Warren Heating and Air have been KY Home Performance (KHP) partners since the very beginning of the program. That's not to say that KHP introduced the concept of whole-house energy upgrades to Steve; however, he was using building diagnostics and comprehensive scopes of work as key services in his 30-year-old HVAC business long before "home performance" became an industry buzzword.

Steve's big-picture view of how homes perform in the real world and his infectious enthusiasm for saving energy led him to become a "Home Energy Expert" in his area, by providing energy audit services in addition to his HVAC business. Steve enjoys explaining energy saving principles to his regular customers and on TV, radio, and newspaper when he can.

"It's fun," Steve tells us, "to see the light bulb go on in somebody's head when I can explain to them how their home really works and how they can make it better."

Steve's daughter, Shelby, shares his excitement over energy savings; she's a licensed journeyman heating and air technician who is working with Steve on energy audits.

The Right Team at the Right Time

Paducah's recent challenges around energy prices are getting a lot of attention, because homeowners are now paying over 50 percent more on their monthly utility bills than they did even a year ago. For many Paducah homeowners, saving energy has become a true budgetary necessity, and Steve, not surprisingly, has become a very busy home energy expert.

In fact, Warren Heating and Air shared ideas with Paducah Power System (PPS) to help the municipal utility field calls from homeowners needing relief from their escalating utility bills. Steve advised PPS on the various technical aspects of making homes more energy efficient, and now he will be helping PPS directly by doing what he's always done best: combining an expert's eye with building science principles to find the most sensible upgrades for homeowners across his home town.

When Every Customer is a Neighbor

While a lot of businesses would be excited at the prospect of using this energy information to become the biggest "box change-out" operation in town, Steve Warren doesn't see things that way.

"I can't tell you the number of times I've talked customers out of a new system," Steve admits, "Maybe it's not the best way to do business, but I sleep better at night knowing that I've saved somebody some money by steering them toward the right solution, whatever it is."

KHP loans are a natural fit for Warren's customer-first philosophy, since they reward two key aspects of Steve's vision: giving every customer the best information available and helping them save money wherever possible. KHP might not be the household name that Warren Heating and Air is in Paducah, but we are proud to play a part in helping our fellow Kentuckians save on energy costs and weather the increasing costs for utilities.
