2015 KYHMIS Training Dates
Kentucky Homeless Management Information System (KYHMIS) training dates have been scheduled for the first quarter of 2015. These trainings will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Conference Room 2 of KHC's 127 South office, 1047 US 127 South, Frankfort. Due to limited space, we will not be able to accommodate more than 6-8 people per session. To attend a KYHMIS training session, users must submit a Training Request Form no later than three days prior to the session to ensure space is available.

Refresher training sessions for current KYHMIS users will occur once per quarter. Existing users seeking to acquire continuing education credits must attend a refresher training specifically - not a new user training. Similarly, new users must attend a new user session.

The dates for the first quarter of 2015 are as follows:

January
  • Tuesday, January 13 - New User Training
  • Thursday, January 15 - New User Training
February
  • Tuesday, February 10 - Refresher Training
  • Thursday, February 12 - New User Training
March
  • Tuesday, March 10 - New User Training
  • Thursday, March 12 - New User Training
HUD Launches Financial Management Curriculum
The Community Planning and Development Department of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has launched an online curriculum, which includes a video, dynamic presentation, and self-paced training module. The Financial Management Curriculum is designed to help customers understand federal financial requirements, create an effective system for managing federal funds, and improve program performance.

HUD recommends users complete the curriculum in the following order:
  1. Introduction to Financial Management Video. This video highlights the importance of sound financial management.
  2. Good Financial Management: A Well Oiled Machine. This dynamic presentation introduces the core concepts of financial management and shows the connections between topics.
  3. Get in Gear: Core Components of Sound Financial Management. This self-paced module provides a solid foundation in financial management on seven interrelated topics:
    • Federal Cost Principles
    • Budgeting
    • Procurement
    • Internal Controls
    • Accounting and Records
    • Reporting
    • Audits
KHC encourages our partners to utilize this Financial Management Curriculum and share the valuable resource with their agency staff.

2015-2019 Consolidated Plan Needs Surveys

KHC and the Kentucky Department for Local Government (DLG) are currently drafting the five-year plan for the HOME Investment Partnerships, Emergency Solutions, Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS, and Community Development Block Grant Programs. The plan consists of a Needs Assessment, Market Analysis, Strategic Plan, and the first Annual Action Plan. Partners are encouraged to read the Needs Assessment and Market Analysis drafts, available on KHC's website under Resources, Data Library, Consolidated Plan. These documents will be updated periodically over the next several weeks. In mid-February 2015, KHC and DLG will hold a public hearing to gather information on housing needs.

KHC and DLG need and value partner input into the plan. In addition, KHC and DLG wish to ensure that the citizens of Kentucky are afforded the opportunity to participate in the process, and invite partners, service providers, local governments, and other housing professionals to complete a partner survey. Also, a citizen survey for Kentucky residents is also available, and KHC and DLG encourage our partners to provide this survey to clients. A paper version of the survey is also available. After the Kentucky citizen completes the survey, the partner agency should enter the information into the Web form.

KHC will gather survey information over the next several weeks. Any questions about the surveys, the Consolidated Plan, or the process may be directed to Bernie Hillman at [email protected].
