A Message from KDVA Commissioner Henry:
Make a Veteran's Day This Veterans Day
To the good people/organizations of Kentucky, this is a reminder that November 11th is Veterans Day. Many of Kentucky's veterans are enjoying life after the military. However, this may not be true for all veterans. As Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA), I would like to remind you that we are here every day of the year to assist you in addressing our veterans in need.
How can you help? If you are aware of a veteran in need of assistance, please contact our Benefits representatives regarding accessing VA services. The interactive map linked to this message will tell you the name and contact information of the Benefits counselor in your area. Connecting veterans to their earned benefits is one way to thank those who have served. And, remember, on Veterans Day, please particularly take a moment out of your day to thank a veteran for his or her service to our great nation. Thank you.

HUD Launches Financial Management Curriculum
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Planning and Development Department has launched an online curriculum designed to help customers understand Federal financial requirements, create an effective system for managing Federal funds, and improve program performance. The Financial Management Curriculum includes a video, dynamic presentation, and a self-paced training module.
HUD recommends users complete the curriculum in the following order:
- Introduction to Financial Management Video. This video highlights the importance of sound financial management.
- Good Financial Management: A Well Oiled Machine. This prezi introduces the core concepts of financial management and shows the connections between topics.
- Get in Gear: Core Components of Sound Financial Management. This self-paced module provides a solid foundation in financial management on seven interrelated topics:
- Federal Cost Principles
- Budgeting
- Procurement
- Internal Controls
- Accounting and Records
- Reporting
- Audits
KHC encourages our partners to utilize the Financial Management Curriculum and share the valuable resource with their agency staff.
