Prayer is a transforming activity. When you encounter God's word, when you absorb it and open yourself to it, you risk change. Contemplation seeks deeper truth, the hope to which you are called, the justice to which the world is called, the vision of God's dominion to which all are called and which Jesus preached. Sincere contemplation, practiced over time, can change you. Make space in your life for God, for God's world, and you will find your relationship to that world changing as you discover connections that were overlooked before. You will find yourself engaged in God's world with your whole self [heart, soul, mind, and strength].
For this kind of transformation to happen, more of yourself must be revealed during prayer. Present yourself to God. Ask intimate and challenging questions of God. While in prayer, you may also discover questions about yourself--about your limitations, struggles, dreams, fears. Like Jacob...you may struggle intimately with God. Nothing is hidden before God. Love, forgiveness, and mercy invite you to change and to respond to God's great love.
