I travel more than most, and yet, at the same time, resist it more than most.

My travels are limited in scope. Generally speaking, my travels outside of Louisiana are confined to California, Illinois, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, with the occasional foray into my living room.

Now, our bank--a major, worldwide bank that bears the name of our continent but knows no borders--finds it unlikely that I, on the other hand, would leave the safe confines of Louisiana for excursions into California, Illinois, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, with the occasional foray into my living room.

As a result, they often and without warning suspend our debit card for suspicious, presumably fraudulent, activity. I appreciate their intent, but it can be rather annoying. This happened most recently when I invited my nephew and niece, Daniel and his wife Madhavi, to join me for supper at my favorite restaurant, Lemon Grass in Sacramento. After enjoying a lovely meal I offered my debit card to our server. A few moments passed and the manager, a longtime acquaintance, came to our table and, with some embarrassment on my behalf, reported that the card had been declined.

Just a warning, if I invite you to a nice restaurant, bring cash. Just in case.

Back in Louisiana, Kathy called the bank. The representative, quite courteous and helpful, asked her to confirm the most recent transactions. Amazon.com, American Airlines, The Apple Store, Barnes & Noble, Hilton Garden Inn, Hotels.com, Panera, and Starbucks. Oh, and Starbucks. Amused, Kathy explained to the bank that typically, when home in Louisiana, I rather tend to use my debit card primarily at Amazon.com, American Airlines, The Apple Store, Barnes & Noble, Hilton Garden Inn, Hotels.com, Panera, and Starbucks. Oh, and Starbucks.

The bank must think these frauds to be quite clever to imitate my very spending habits.

The lesson of this little tale, if you insist I have one, is around integrity. A life of integrity is a life of intention and consistency, whether you be in Louisiana, California, Illinois, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, or in my living room.

Your bank may not get it, but it will be apparent to those around you.

Oh, and Daniel and Madhavi, thank you for supper.

What's the state of your integrity? Are intention and consistency evident in your life--regardless of time and place? Is there any place of "fraudulent activity"?
