At the moment of mother's passing
Down the corridor, dark and still,
Two young girls who loved her too
Awoke as one, spirits moving.
A cold embrace, desperate tears,
And much too soon, they bid farewell.
A common longing, a common fear
Sought her soul to stay.
Her now-stilled voice is thought to wonder,
"Will you think of me when I'm away?"
Some weeks later, picking up pieces,
Across the States I flew.
These same two girls
Await my coming, spirits clinging.
A warm embrace, delightful cheers,
And much too soon, we bid farewell.
A puzzle scattered on the floor,
One turned to me from play.
Her small and pensive voice inquired,
"Do you think of us when you're away?"
