Well, here we are in September. Soon the snowbirds will be back and things will start humming around here. The holidays are fast approaching which means parties, gatherings, entertaining, decorations, etc. If you are like me, it is much fun to go to a holiday function, but wow it is a lot of work to put one together. Let's see what can be done with the help of our "Crack Catering Department". Log on to the website and head to DINING/SOCIAL. Click on Banquets and Catering and take a gander at that pull down list. You have a choice of areas, an on-line form to fill out for information, and you can read some reviews. I have heard from a very good source new menus are being worked on. This sure takes the stress out of you doing all the work.

If you are interested in this advisory group, please send an email to communications@slhoa3.com. The ideal number for a group or committee is 10 members. Once that number has been reached, you will be notified of the time, date and place of the first meeting.

If you are thinking about running for the Board of Directors, there is one important date you need to be aware of: Nominations close at the end of the business day on Friday, September 18, 2015.
Nomination Packets are available at the clubhouses or may be downloaded from the IronOaks Website. 
This is a great way to serve your community. Don't hesitate. Being a Board member is both rewarding and educational.  
There are 3 openings for the Board of Directors this year.

Garage Sale
 

The Garage Sale is Coming

The Community Garage Sale is November 7, 2015 from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. 
A list of participants will be available at the Oakwood Clubhouse before the Garage Sale and at the gates the day of the sale.

You can sign up to participate at the Oakwood Clubhouse or online on the web site. Sign up by Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
 
Lost and Found
 
A very nice ring was found at the Halley Pool shower on September 2, 2015.  If this ring belongs to you, it may be claimed in the Communications Office located in the Oakwood Clubhouse. The Communications Department hours are from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

If you are thinking of having your house painted, here are a few things to consider:
  • Prior approval from the Architectural Landscape Department is required before your painter begins the job.
  • The office has color charts and sample chips of the current approved stucco, trim, and door colors. There is a wide variety of color suggestions available.
  • Masonry walls, fences, and mailboxes must be painted the color of the body (stucco) of the house.
  • For your protection, always hire a licensed, bonded painting contractor.

Pickleball Update
 
The first "Quick Play" Pickleball Social Tournament hosted by the IronOaks Fitness and Racquet Center will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am with food, prizes, and lots of fun! Please sign up in front of Jenny Browne's office with your name and your partner's name as well as your level of play. Please put your level of play as one of the following:
A/B, B/C, or C/D.

Tournament on the Horizon
The USTA Southwest Regionsponsors an adult age group tournament series called the Southwest Slam Series.This is a definitive section "surface" championships with indoor, grass, clay, and hard court tournaments being held to determine just who the best all-surface players are in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Competitions range from the 35s level all the way up to the 75s level.  
These four Southwest championship events are Level 1 Tournaments for adult age group ranking purposes and unique opportunities for players to test their skills on a variety of playing surfaces. 
 
You may not  know that the clay event is played right here at IOTC.This year's event will be played beginning on Thursday, September 24th and will conclude on Sunday, September 27th. Players come from all over the Southwest region to compete in this event. Set aside some time during this tournament to come to the club and watch some very competitive tennis. Please email jbrowne@slhoa3.com if you would like to play in this tournament or if you have any questions.
Tennis Members  
A member may renew their membership early (now) and the new contract will
still start when the old contract ends. This will allow members to continue placing their booking requests for future dates. Please keep in mind that after renewing your membership, you will be able to book your name into the system, but you may find that you are unable to book the other players in your group. If this occurs, it is because the other players have not renewed their memberships. In this case, please put "guest" in for one of your players for now. As you get closer to the date of play (and everyone has renewed), you will want to go back in and put in the other players' names.

Crystal Awards

 The Crystal Awards purpose is "To publicly acknowledge outstanding Sun Lakes volunteers working toward the betterment of Sun Lakes." Anyone may nominate someone they feel deserves this prestigious award.
 
    Nominations opened September 8, 2015, and close November 20, 2015.
    Winners will be announced in early December.
    The Awards Banquet will be held at the Oakwood Club House   
               on Sunday, March 6, 2016.

Questions regarding the Crystal Awards may be directed to Sandy Applegate at 895-2738 or pick up a Crystal Award Nomination Packet in the Information Hallway of the Oakwood Clubhouse.
