Golly gee, I am bored silly this morning. It is Thursday and the weekend is looming ahead of me. I cannot just sit home and watch the heat. I know I'll check the web site for what's happening at the clubhouse. Logging on, clicking on Dining/Social, clicking on Read More, WOW, Free Entertainment tonight, Poker at Ironwood Friday, Piano Music on Saturday, yummy chef's specials Friday and Saturday, Buffet tonight. No excuse to be bored. If I look carefully, there is something going on all the time. Labor Day, Trivia, Paint Parties, free entertainment. Let's go, this is an active adult community. No place for couch potatoes.

Do You Have Some Free Time?

Once again we are reaching out to the community for help. Members are needed for the following Advisory Groups: Food & Beverage, and Risk Management.The Finance Committee is in need of two more members. A new advisory group is being formed for Activities. If you are interested in any of these advisory groups or the committee, please send an email to communications@slhoa3.com. The ideal number for each group or committee is 10 members. Once that number has been reached, you will be notified of the time, date and place of the first meeting.

Board Elections On The Horizon

If you are thinking about running for the Board of Directors, there are some important dates you need to be aware of: Monday, September 1, 2015, Nominations Open; Wednesday, September 9, 2015, a workshop for potential Board candidates will be held at 1:00 pm in the Bradford Room of the Oakwood Clubhouse. Nominations close at the end of the business day on Friday, September 18, 2015.
Nomination Packets are available at the clubhouses or may be downloaded from the IronOaks Website.

This is a great way to serve your community. Don't hesitate. Being a Board member is both rewarding and educational.

Changing Anything?

The ALC Guidelines state that, "The homeowner has the responsibility to obtain authorization from the ALC prior to making any exterior alterations to his/her property..."

That means ANYTHING. If you are unsure, call the office at 802-2776 and ask our friendly staff. They will be more than happy to assist you, give you advice, explain the permitting structure, and the hours when you can obtain the proper documents. Message From ALC

Storms

Our recent monsoon storms with their accompanying winds and rain have caused some damage to our property. Many homeowners are out of town and cannot physically see their homes to check for problems. All of us need to take some kind of action to periodically check our property whether we are here in IronOaks, away for the summer, or just on vacation. Please walk your property if you are here, or have your house caretaker or landscape contractor do it if you are away. While you are looking for damage, be sure to check for weeds. We all know with rain, weeds will surely follow.

Here is the latest report for the traffic on Nacoma, after the speed hump
was removed:

Dates = 8-13-15 to 8-20-15

Total vehicles monitored = 2713

Total at or under speed limit = 1980

Total at 25 mph to 30 mph = 554

Total over 30 mph = 179

Highest speed = 39

Agave Health

Agave Predators

Along with over-watering agave cacti, there is another potential problem waiting to attack your plants. Its technical name is Scyphorous Acupunctatus or the Agave Billbug, Agave Weevil or just that ugly grub. According to Arizona Cactus, there is a twice a year treatment that will prevent this bug from making its home in your agave. In the spring and summer, sprinkle some Grub Control around the base of the plant. Use one shot glass full of the granules for a medium plant, and two shot glasses full for a large plant. Every time you water or it rains the granules will be activated and seep down into the soil to protect your plant.

Deadline Drawing Near

At the bottom of every Stay in the Loop since last March there has been an article telling you how to update or add to your information the the Sun Lakes Source Book. If you have any changes to make, the deadline for submitting your information to Robson Publishing is October 1, 2015. The information may be submitted on line at www.sunlakessplash.com or by filling out the form found at the front of this year's Source Book or in the Splash.

Pool Announcement

Main Pool Closure

The Oakwood Main Pool will close Friday, August 28, 2015 at 5:00 pm for partial draining and refill.

The pool will reopen Saturday morning, August 29, 2015 by 8:00 am. The lap pool and spa will remain open.

In order for you to be listed in the Sun Lakes Source Book, you must complete the homeowner directory coupon form. The Homeowners' Associations do not pass on any personal information to the publisher of the Sun Lakes Source Book for publication. This coupon is available

online at www.sunlakessplash.com , in the front of the 2015 Source Book, and in the Sun Lakes Splash newspaper. The coupon must be completed by the homeowners and turned in to Robson Publishing prior to October 1st.
