Come join us at the IronOaks Fitness Center
The Director's Corner

IronOaks Fitness members have made exercise a priority in their lives. Members come through our doors to join one of our group activity classes, work out in the weight room or complete a cardiovascular workout. Many of our members have built lasting friendships in classes and in the Fitness Center, providing them with the extra boost necessary to get out of the house and into the gym.

What many members don't think about, and shouldn't have to, is the preparation and education that our Group Activity Instructors and Personal Trainers have undergone to provide an exceptional experience for our members and guests. One small example of the planning that goes into a class or training session is how members are challenged by adding neuroplasticity training to daily life.

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganize and rewire itself in response to experience and stimuli. This type of training is accomplished by simple games with movement. Holding a ball and balancing on one foot or simply sitting and raising alternating fingers to plyometric burpees, are examples of important training tools. This type of training assists in brain health and the ability to maintain the activities of daily living.

After having a great workout in the Fitness Center, members have several choices of additional brain games to take home, or to work on with friends in our Lobby. IronOaks is proud to provide the latest programming for optimal health, through training, classes and workshops.

Our Staff is eager to help you improve your physical, cognitive, and emotional health. Please, feel free to call or stop by, we welcome you.

Did you know balance training can reduce the likelihood of falls and injuries? As we age, our ability to maintain our balance often becomes more difficult. However, various types of exercises can be incorporated into your routine to help improve your ability to stay upright. This workshop will discuss the most current and effective ways to make sure you stay on your feet. Come find out the benefits of balance training which include improved reaction time and improved coordination!

IronOaks Fitness Center offers several great options for Yoga classes. With several different levels, we will teach you basic yoga movements that will stretch and strengthen your muscles. Yoga improves your strength, flexibility and balance.

Tennis

The Fitness and Racquet Center hosted another fun night of tennis at the "Strawberries and Cream" Tennis Social held on August 14.  A mix and match tug of war tennis match was played with -you guessed it- strawberries, whipped cream and pound cake offered after match play. We survived the final hot night of summer tennis and look forward to the cooler temperatures that are soon to come. A big "Thank you" to those players that stuck it out Friday!

September will bring the last of the Summer's Friday NIGHT socials to be held on September 11, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. October will usher in Kwong and Jenny's mid-day socials. Look for more information about our Fall and Winter Socials next month.

IronOaks to Host Regional Tennis Tournament

The IOTC is hosting the USTA Southwest Clay Court Slam, September 24th through the 27th. This tournament is open to the USTA Southwest Division which includes all of Arizona, New Mexico, and El Paso. If you or someone you know would like more information concerning this tournament, please visit the USTA tennis website at http://tennislink.usta.com. Click on the Tournaments heading and put in 750017915 as the tournament number. Feel free to stop by the Fitness and Racquet Center with any questions as well. For those of you who enjoy tennis, but no longer compete, please join us as a spectator and help cheer on our members!

Tennis Memberstennis-items.jpg

Some of our tennis members have tried to request courts a few months from now, but the Chelsea system will not allow the request. This is because your membership expires before your booking request. For example, Bob wants to reserve a court for October 15th, but his membership expires September 30th.  The Chelsea system will not allow Bob to reserve.

We would like to offer a solution to this problem. A member may renew their membership early and the new contract will still start when the old contract ends. This will allow members to continue placing their booking requests for future dates. From the example above, Bob renews his contract on August 25th, but his new contract will still have an end date of September 30, 2016. The Chelsea system will now ALLOW Bob to request a booking for his October 15th court time since his membership has already been renewed for another year.
This process would be the same if you currently have a combo membership (Pickleball and Tennis or Tennis and Fitness).  Please feel free to call or stop by the front desk with any questions. 480-802-6853
