Web Site Tips
Lady on Computer
I had a couple of calls this week that got me to thinking. That in itself is scary, me thinking.  Anyway, how many of you wish you could remember something you read in SITL a month ago? This is not a problem. Log onto the web site. On the very first page, look to the right for Stay Informed. Guess where we are going? Looksie down just a tad and click on Read More. Next step, look for SITL email Archive and click on that. There for your reading pleasure every email announcement dating back to June 6, 2013 is listed. Simply click on the one you want to read. Now a word of advice, if you want to read something from before June, 2013, you really have too much time on your hands.

Committee Corner

The Committee Page of the IronOaks website makes it easier for homeowners to find the latest minutes, agendas and to see names of fellow homeowners who serve on each committee.... click here to see more. The charters for each committee are also listed.

Message From ALC

Storms

Our recent monsoon storms with their accompanying winds and rain have caused some damage to our property. Many homeowners are out of town and cannot physically see their homes to check for problems. All of us need to take some kind of action to periodically check our property whether we are here in IronOaks, away for the summer, or just on vacation. Please walk your property if you are here, or have your house caretaker or landscape contractor do it if you are away. While you are looking for damage, be sure to check for weeds. We all know with rain, weeds will surely follow.

Director of ALC

ARTICLE X
Community Standards

Section 2: General Appearance of Property Paragraph A states: There shall be no hanging or draping of clothes, rags, carpet, or other paraphernalia on lines, furniture or any other objects visible to neighbors.

Some homes have hung some shiny streamers from fences, garage lights, patios, etc. Although they might look nice and be effective for whatever the purpose, it is a violation to do this and you could be given a citation. Please be aware of the Rules and stay in compliance.

Agave Health

Agave Predators

Along with over-watering agave cacti, there is another potential problem waiting to attack your plants. Its technical name is Scyphorous Acupunctatus or the Agave Billbug, Agave Weevil or just that ugly grub. According to Arizona Cactus, there is a twice a year treatment that will prevent this bug from making its home in your agave. In the spring and summer, sprinkle some Grub Control around the base of the plant.  Use one shot glass full of the granules for a medium plant, and two shot glasses full for a large plant. Every time you water or it rains the granules will be activated and seep down into the soil to protect your plant.

A special thanks to IronOaks resident, Linda Spink, who did the research and forwarded it on for everyone to read and learn.
Fishing At A New Location

Fishing At Baseball Lake

Opening day at the Baseball Lake started out with Keith Bachman landing the first tilapia. By 6:30 am, about 20 Sun Lakes Fly Fishing Club members, guests and other residents were wetting their lines with flies. The turnout was more than I expected, and the results were outstanding, although not exactly what we were expecting. With 900 lbs. of Bass being recently stocked by Ron Kotnik, we were all expecting to land Bass.

A few guys got skunked and some caught several, but in 2 ½ hours of fly fishing, 20 tilapia that weighed between 1 to 3 lbs. were landed. It was my first time, as it was with others, to land a tilapia because they are vegetarian bottom feeders. After having several conversations with others about the lack of catching bass, we came to a couple of conclusions. Some believed that Ron Kotnik stocked the lake with bass that were trained on how to avoid imitation bait. Others thought the water was too warm and the bass were hunkering down in the deepest part of the lake which wasn't reachable with our casting.

I think everyone enjoyed themselves and look forward to fishing the lake again. The Sun Lakes Fly Fishing Club will be hosting the disabled veterans from Project Healing Waters at this lake in October. The water temperature will be much lower, so bass fishing should be very strong.
