Web Site Tips

Well, here we are, ready for another summer holiday. If you are still working, like me, you are probably looking forward to a long weekend. If you are retired, it is still a fireworks-summer.jpg holiday and schedules get changed. Hmmm, what to do and when to do it?  I know, let's check the web site and see when things are open. Sign in, click on HOA INFO and then on hours.  Whoopee, there are the hours for everything in IronOaks. You have your pick, food, golf, fitness and swimming. Up and at em. Get out and enjoy all that IronOaks has to offer. While you are at it, celebrate the 4th and "Shoot Your Firecrackers"; just be careful.

Something New Is Coming To IronOaks

As you are driving around you  may  notice some new poles with a plastic box attached. IronOaks is beginning the distribution of a monthly paper news letter.  Watch for the July issue which will be available soon.  The boxes are located at the unmanned gates, on some golf cart paths, near some of the facilities and, of course, there will be copies at the clubhouse.
Let us know what you think. We welcome any suggestions.

Help Wanted

 Committee Needs Volunteers

The Rules & Regulations Committee is looking for members. If you are interested in becoming a member of the committee, contact:
Gary Market at: garymslhoa3@gmail.com
Please include your name and contact information. The committee meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 1:00 pm.

Lock Boxes

A Lock Box Could Save Your Life

Please consider getting a Lock Box at the nearest Fire Station. The cost is just $45.00, and will be installed free of charge by just calling Neighbors Who Care at 480-895-7133. One of their volunteers will be happy to assist you. A key to your home is placed inside the lock box by the fire department, and they are the only ones who can access the box. In an emergency, the fire department will be able to enter your home without having to break down the door.

Life Line Screening

Mark July 29th on your Calendar

IronOaks at Sun Lakes is pleased to offer a preventive health event. Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings on July 29, 2015.

Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which are a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis.

Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit:

Beck Kolb has sent in these pictures to share with all of us. Whether this is one our Owl Family, no one knows. It is nice to think they remained in the area.

Plant Lady News

Agave Health  cactus.jpg

Once agaves are established, they need very little water. The number one cause of plant failure in Arizona is too much water. I have agave growing in my yard, and they are not on a drip system. In the summertime, they get watered about once a month.

Here's a simple method to help you discover whether it is under or over watering that is making your agaves sick. Take a screwdriver and stick it in the soil, through the crushed granite. If you can push the screwdriver more than an inch, you are over watering. If you can push it only one inch, you are under watering. If the soil is pretty wet, let it dry out completely. In the presence of too much water, the roots rot and cannot take in the water they are sitting in. If you are over watering, I would suggest that perhaps you may also be over watering other shrubs and trees in your yard. If you are under watering, water the agave some, wait about an hour and then water again.  Some times the soil is so dry it just runs off and the never gets to the plant.

The Sun Lakes Posse

A Community Asset

The Sun Lakes Posse is one of the real assets of this community. Not only are there Posse members patrolling our streets and Sheriff's Deputies on site for law enforcement when necessary, but medical equipment is available free of charge for Sun Lakes residents to borrow when there is a need. The Posse is manned by an all volunteer force who willingly give their time to make Sun Lakes a safer and better place to live.

If you need medical equipment after surgery, suffer a broken bone, are just home from rehab or have a guest who needs equipment, just come to the Posse Office. The only requirement for taking advantage of this service is residency in Sun Lakes. The Medical Equipment Office hours of operation are:

9:00 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Fridays

Due to the upcoming holiday, Friday, July 3, 2015, the Medical Equipment office will be open from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Pet Responsibilty

Clean-Up After Your Pet

We all have a responsibility if we own a pet, whether it be a cat or a dog.  According to the Rules and Regulations of IronOaks, all pets must be leashed unless they are in a fenced area. When walking your dog, please remember to pick up after them. Just carry a plastic bag with you on your walks, take it home with you and put it in your trash container. Please do not allow your dog to use the mailboxes as a place to relieve themself. This will stain the paint and leave an unpleasant odor.
Be considerate of your neighbors.
