The Director's Corner

Summer may be warm, but it's not slowing down activities at the IronOaks Fitness and Racquet Center.  Coming up June 23rd and 25th, is the First Annual IronOaks Beat the Heat Triathlon Series.  The goal of this event is participation.  Our entire staff welcomes all homeowners to participate. The 75 and older age group is dominating the sign-ups. We would love to have more participants in the other age groups as well.  Sign up by this Friday, June 19, 2015.  It will be super fun!

On July 29th, Life Line Screening is coming to the IronOaks Ballroom to conduct several preventative health screenings. For a nominal fee, homeowners are being offered Stroke/Carotid Artery Screening, Heart Rhythm Screening, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening, Osteoporosis Risk Assessment and Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening.  Early detection is the key to prevention.  To sign up, please click on the link in the article below, or call 1-888-653-6450.

If you are wondering how you will stay active, engaged and continue on your quest for overall wellness during the heat of the summer, please consider joining us at the IronOaks Fitness Center.   Andrew Carnegie said it best, "Anything in life worth having is worth working for". I can't think of anything more worthwhile, and worth your effort, than working each day towards a healthier and more functional life.

As always, please call 480-802-6853, or stop by the Fitness and Racquet Center if you have any questions.

 July Workshops

-Beginners TRX Workshop 7/3/15 1:00 pm

Suspension training, or TRX, is a highly effective total body workout. It is particularly good for strengthening your core and improving your balance. If you haven't experienced TRX training before, this is a great opportunity to find out how fun, safe, and challenging it is!

-Beginners Freemotion Cable Cross Workshop 7/3/15 1:30 pm

With dozens of different exercises, this is another type of equipment that provides a great total body workout. Similar to TRX training, it is an excellent tool for adding variety to your routine. This workshop is a great opportunity to learn about this versatile training tool!

-Intermediate TRX Workshop 7/10/15 1:00 pm

If you're comfortable with basic TRX exercises, this workshop is a great way to take your routine up a notch. A little more advanced than the beginners workshop, this workshop will build upon the basic TRX exercises and help you

progress towards your goals.

-Intermediate Freemotion Cable Cross Workshop 7/10/15 1:30 pm

If you're already familiar with the Cable Cross, this workshop offers new exercises to expand your routine. The Cable Cross allows you to do exercises that can't be replicated by other machines, and this workshop will teach you how to get the most out of your training!

All workshops will be taught by Erik Reinertsen, CSCS. He is an experienced personal trainer who earned a BS in kinesiology from Arizona State University.

Open Forum for Fitness, Exercise, and Nutrition

Erik Reinertsen, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, will be holding a Question & Answer style forum for all of your exercise, fitness, sports, and nutrition questions on Friday June 19, 2015, at 1:00 pm.

It will be an open floor style forum where you can ask any question that is relative to the topic. These days, with the internet and other forms of media, people can post whatever they want, without necessarily being qualified or educated on these topics. This is a great opportunity to get advice, tips, or answers from a credible fitness trainer with years of experience and a formal education. It also a great opportunity for those who are well versed to get up to speed on the latest trends and topics in fitness and exercise.

Erik will do his best to answer and provide all information within his knowledge about exercise, fitness, and nutrition. We look forward to seeing you there!

Screenings Coming To IronOaks July 29th

Five screenings that scan for potential health problems related to:

1) Blocked carotid arteries, a leading cause of stroke

3) Hardening of the arteries in the legs, a strong predictor of heart disease

4) Atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat, that is closely tied to stroke risk

5) Bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess their risk of osteoporosis.

Beginning on May 4, the IronOaks Fitness Center added a new water class taught by certified instructor Mary Mahaney. SilverSneakers SPLASH is a great exercise class that is fun and refreshing while providing a non-impact workout. You do not need to know how to swim to enjoy this class, and a SilverSneakers kickboard is used for balance and stability.

Classes take place on Saturday mornings at 9:00 am in the Fitness Center Pool. Bring your bathing suit, a towel, and sunscreen and have a great time splashing with Mary.

Tennis Socials

A big "thank you" to all the players that came out to the June Mix and Match Social!  We celebrated Father's Day a little early, had good food and fun tennis.  The next Friday night social will be held July 17, 2015, from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm.  We will be organizing some of the tennis for that night by level, so please put your self-rating on the sign-up sheet next to your name. A special cold treat will be served to help celebrate America. Wear your red, white and blue and receive a gift from us as well!  The sign-up sheet will be ready next week. The charge is  $5.00 per person and may be paid at the front desk.

GOOD LUCK to all our players participating in the Clay Court tournament this week, June 15 -19, 2015. Have fun and stay hydrated!

Pickleball in the Summer

Just a friendly reminder that all the rules and polices that apply to pickleball during the busy season, also apply during the summer months.  For example, during Organized Play, the courts are considered "full" when there are 8 players of that skill level signed in for play. Non-members are unable to play during Organized play.  If you have any questions about Organized Play or anything concerning the Pickleball courts, please feel free to contact Jenny Browne at the Fitness and Racquet Center at 480-317-3655  Thank you!

Keep drinking water. Stay hydrated!
