The Director's Message

The IronOaks Fitness Center is gearing up for a hot summer with some cool classes and fun activities.

We are excited to announce that our four Water Fitness Classes are doing extremely well. It is a highly effective way for both the deconditioned and the highly fit person to increase their level of fitness. The resistance of the water allows for increases in muscle strength and cardiovascular conditioning, while the water creates a low impact, therapeutic effect. Please join us...it's a wonderful way to have a fun morning and make new friends.

The IronOaks Fitness Center's fun and exciting June activity is Triathlon Series. One of the purposes for this activity is to encourage all fitness members
to participate. If you are not currently a member of the Fitness Center, you are welcome to participate in the event by paying the $5.00 guest fee. Please check out the informational flyer for more information.

We are striving to improve the Health and Fitness of our Community.

As always, please call the Fitness Center if you have any questions at 480-802-6853.

Open Forum for Fitness, Exercise, and Nutrition

Erik Reinertsen, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, will be holding a Question & Answer style forum for all of your exercise, fitness, sports, and nutrition questions on Friday June 19, 2015, at 1:00 pm.

It will be an open floor style forum where you can ask any question that is relative to the topic. These days, with the internet and other forms of media, people can post whatever they want, without necessarily being qualified or educated on these topics. This is a great opportunity to get advice, tips, or answers from a credible fitness trainer with years of experience and a formal education. It also a great opportunity for those who are well versed to get up to speak on the latest trends and topics in fitness and exercise.

Erik will do his best to answer and provide all information within his knowledge about exercise, fitness, and nutrition. We look forward to seeing you there!

Screenings Coming To IronOaks

Five screenings that scan for potential health problems related to:

1) Blocked carotid arteries, a leading cause of stroke

2) Abdominal aortic aneurysms, which can lead to a ruptured aorta

3) Hardening of the arteries in the legs, a strong predictor of heart disease

4) Atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat, that is closely tied to stroke risk

5) Bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess their risk of osteoporosis.

If interested in getting screened, please pick up a pink flyer at the Fitness Center for more information or call 1-888-653-6450 to schedule your appointment.

Life Line Screening will also be offering the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit which is FREE to QUALIFIED Medicare beneficiaries (no co-pay if you have Medicare Part B). This is not a physical but a personal wellness consultation designed to help you and your doctor keep you healthy, safe and independent for a long time. Medicare is billed for this visit. The Fitness Center adds a new SilverSneakers® water class.

Beginning on May 4, the IronOaks Fitness Center added a new water class taught by certified instructor Mary Mahaney. SilverSneakers SPLASH is a great exercise class that is fun and refreshing while providing a non-impact workout. You do not need to know how to swim to enjoy this class, and a SilverSneakers kickboard is used for balance and stability.

Classes take place on Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the Fitness Center Pool. Bring your bathing suit, a towel, and sunscreen and have a great time splashing with Mary.
