Are you too busy to exercise? At least is that what you're telling yourself? You may have a busy schedule volunteering, playing card games, shopping, responding to emails and taking care of the Grandkids. However, while accomplishing all these tasks, you may be suffering symptoms of stress, anxiety, and tension. You certainly are busy, and at the end of the day you may feel drained. Ironically, overall you may feel very unproductive.

Many times the answer to maximizing productivity is to slow down and take care of yourself. Here are some tips for starting up and sticking with an exercise routine, no matter how busy you are.

  • Get clear on your priorities - You have a choice. If your health is important to you, then it's important to set priorities to increase your fitness and health. This will decrease the stress and anxiety and make you feel more empowered.
  • Don't expect perfection - Give yourself a break - Don't hide your imperfections, and don't feel guilty when you miss one workout. Trust that you'll get "back on track".
  • Consistency over intensity - Give yourself permission to set small goals. What if you started with 10 minutes of exercise in the morning and 10 minutes of exercise tomorrow afternoon? Commit to these goals wholeheartedly.
  • Find movement you love - Why waste time with a form of exercise you hate? There are hundreds of ways to move the body. Pick one that you enjoy. It will be something you look forward to, instead of feeling like it's a chore.
  • Notice how you feel when you're done - When you have a hard time making a commitment to getting up a little earlier in the morning to exercise, ask yourself if you've ever regretted doing something that's good for you. Have you ever thought "I'm so disappointed in myself that I went on that walk", or "I really feel worse now that I did Yoga".
Our staff at the IronOaks Fitness Center is always here to help inspire you to increase your fitness and health....it's our passion

First of Many Tennis Social Outings

The "Tug of War" Tennis Social, hosted by the IronOaks Fitness and Racquet Center, was held on Friday, May 8, 2015, from 7:00 pm-8:30 pm.  Each doubles team started with 5 games each.  As a team won a game, they "stole" a game away from their opponents (6-4, then 7-3).  The opponents could win games back as well. So many of our well-matched teams' scores hovered at 5-5 or 6-4 for much of the time.

The object is for one team to get to a score of 10-0. Thirty players enjoyed the night.  They learned a fun, new game, and shared cheesecake with friends on the patio. This night event is the first of a series of Doubles Socials that Kwong Young and Jenny Browne will be hosting monthly.  The next event will be on Friday, June 5, 2015.  Look for more information about the "Mix and Match" June Tennis Social in the coming weeks!
