NEWS FLASH!!
The Homeowner Satisfaction Survey results are posted on the web site. Sign into the web site. You are on the OWNER HOME page. Come on now, you know where you are. Look at the box under the picture. The first bullet point says 2015 Homeowner Satisfaction Survey Final Results. If you click on that, a world of information will open up for your viewing pleasure. Once you have looked at all the great charts, explanations, and individual listing of results, you will have a good idea of how folks feel about living in IronOaks. Check out the article below to find out about the volunteers who developed, tabulated and published the results.

Homeowner Satisfaction Survey

Homeowner Satisfaction Survey Results

Full results of the Second Annual Homeowner Satisfaction Survey have been posted on the IronOaks web site. Click here to view You will need access to the Homeowners only section of the site to view results.

Many thanks to homeowner, Rose Hull, who donated countless hours using her professional experience in writing the survey and compiling the results. Without her generous support, undertaking this survey would have cost homeowners thousands of dollars. As a result, there was no cost to the HOA. All aspects of the work were completed by Rose and other non-paid volunteers.

Thanks to the many homeowners who participated in the survey. This year we had 1,634 responses, up by more than 70 from the previous year. Given the big deficit last year, it's not surprising that Food & Beverage was identified as the most important thing the Board should try to improve this year. While homeowners again indicated some areas need improvement, in general, we love the "quality of lifestyle" in IronOaks.

Four survey questions allowed open-ended responses. A summary of those responses can be found in the separate Appendix.

A final note: The only role of the IronOaks Board of Directors was to give consent to the Master Planning Committee to conduct the survey. The Board is not responsible for, nor had any part in, writing the survey questions, tabulating, or reporting the results.

If you have a nose for news, we have the perfect job for you. If you see something unusual happening in your neighborhood, or perhaps a friend has an interesting story, or maybe one of the activities at IronOaks was just a whole lot of fun tell us about it.  People like to read things about their community that don't necessarily come from the Board, General Manager or Committee Chairs. Keep you eyes peeled and you ears open.  Write it up and send it to mmiddleton@slhoa3.com  We are beginning a paper newsletter and the first issue will be in June. This is a perfect place for your articles

Don't be shy.  We can always use good, interesting and fun information!!

Committee Report

Communications and Unit Captains Committees

Both Committees met on May 5, 2015. They work in conjunction with each other to insure that important information is sent to homeowners in a timely fashion. The Communications Committee discussed ways to promote IronOaks to people outside the community. Also discussed were ideas for upgrading SITL and articles that are submitted to local area newspapers.

Unit Captains were updated on the most recent happenings in the community and were asked to send this information on to the homeowners who live in the units they represent. Captains are also able to submit questions to the HOA staff that they have received from homeowners in their units. If you don't hear from your Captain or don't know who your Captain is, contact the Chair, Pat Scherr at cactusdame39@gmail.com

Pruning Desert Plants

Reasons for pruning shrubs include maintenance of plant health, controlling plant size, and rejuvenating old plants. Maintaining plant health includes the removal of diseased, dying, injured and dead branches. Stems that rub against each other should be removed. Control of shrub size for visibility and safety concerns is sometimes necessary. These can be minimized by allowing sufficient space for the plant to reach its mature size in the landscape. Renovating or rejuvenating old or overgrown shrubs through pruning generally improves the structure and quality of the plant, and results in improved displays for flowering shrubs. Some shrubs are grown as formal hedges and require continuous pruning to maintain size and shape.

Spring Transition

Temperatures are rising, and the wind has been blowing. I am now looking below the surface of the soil for activity that is going to help the Bermuda grass come back to life. Warmer soil temperatures and increased irrigation will help with this, but there are many more steps involved in a successful transition.

Spring transition is the process of removing winter or "cool season" ryegrass and promoting the growth of the Bermuda or "warm season" turf. There are many debated methods of removing ryegrass that have been discussed throughout the agronomy industry. There are superintendents in the industry who hang on to the ryegrass as long as possible and others who want to get rid of it as soon as they can. I tend to lean more toward the second approach. My reason and my belief is that if we have healthy Bermuda grass going into overseed, not only will we have a nice "bed" for the ryegrass to germinate, we will have a successful transition the next year. This is all in a perfect world, of course.

The problem with removing perennial ryegrass is just that. It IS perennial, meaning it has a dormancy period, and if left alone will come back year after year. This is best described in what we see in the rough areas outside of the normal overseed.

Because of the warmer weather last month, along with the windy conditions, some areas appear to be brown. This happens when ryegrass gets stressed; its roots shrink and go into a defensive mode. We were 20 degrees above normal for the month of March. We typically don't see 95 degrees until well into April or May. Irrigation run times have been, adjusted and as it continues to warm, the Bermuda will "green up". This is a yearly process that we encourage to ensure a better transition from the cool season grass back to warm season for the summer months.
