Web Site Tips

Lady on ComputerMany times you may see employees of IronOaks and not know who they are or what they do.  Yup, you can find out on the website.  Log on, then click on HOA Info.  Look at the list on the left and click on HOA Contacts.  There you will find the names of folks who work in the various departments.  If you click on a name you will see their contact information and a brief biography.  This is a really simple way to get to know the people who work at IronOaks.  Can you believe how much information can be found on the Ironoaks Website?
Important Announcement

Intel has removed the stop light at the corner of Dobson and Chaparral. Based on a traffic study, The City of Chandler made the request to remove the signal. Currently only east/west traffic has a stop sign. Any changes made to the intersection regarding this situation must come from the City of Chandler.

Committee Meetings

MASTER PLANNING COMMITTEE

The monthly Master Planning Committee meeting was held on January 12, 2015. In 2014, the Committee made revisions to the Master Plan which will be finalized and recommended to the Board. The Committee is also working on a benchmarking report that will include several comparisons to similar communities. The Committee is looking forward to working with the Board to establish specific goals for the Master Planning Committee in 2015.

FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING

The monthly Finance Committee meeting was held on January 16, 2015. The Committee reviewed and discussed the December financials that Controller, Faye Stone, provided. It was reported that the Reserve Study will be finalized and available for the Committee within the week. The committee decided to wait until the new Chair of the Finance Committee is determined before making further Committee restructuring decisions.

A Message From Patrol

Patrol Reminder

Now that our winter visitors are back, we are seeing increased traffic everywhere. There are several Rules and Regulations that are being violated, probably due to lack of knowledge. Here are a few reminders:

  1. No parking on the street at night without special permission from the Patrol.
  2. Bring your homeowner's card with you when visiting the pools.
  3. Children must be at least 15 years old to use the main Oakwood pool during the hours of 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm only.
  4. Golf carts are motor vehicles and are required to stop at all stop signs.
  5. It is a $100.00 fine to illegally park in a handicap space.

Mobile Patrol can be reached at 480-797-6508. Please call if you need information.

ANOTHER SCAM

Some of our homeowners have received a phone call from someone saying that they are with the Attorney General's Office and that it is imperative that they call 347-828-9783. This is a SCAM. We spoke to the Attorney General's Office and they do not make such calls. If you receive one of these calls, please disregard. If you want to report it, call 602-542-5763. That is the Attorney General's complaint phone number and they will take your complaint. It will then be turned over to the Federal Trade Commission for follow up.

Golf Cart Traffic Update

Recently an article was written for SITL that mentioned the problems that the Patrol is having with golf carts using the Halley Gate to enter IRONWOOD. It was stated that all golf carts must use the RESIDENT traffic lane instead of the VISITOR'S traffic lane.

Due to popular demand from the golfers, that decision has been reversed.Effective January 22, 2015, all golf carts will be allowed to enter IRONWOOD by using the VISITOR'S traffic lane.

A word of warning! If the barrier arm is in the UP position, use caution!  It may come down in front of you. The speed limit when going through the gate should be no more than 5 MPH.

 Golf Course Maintenance

Litter on the coursegolf2.jpg

Golfers, we want to make a good impression when non-residents come to play our courses. We all want to enjoy a round of golf and not see unsightly debris scattered around our courses. At times, you may see any or all of the following: fruit peels and apple cores in the rough, peanut and sunflower seed shells on the tees and greens, or discarded cigarettes and cigar ashes dropped on the greens. With the course renovation projects well under way, we are encouraging proper maintenance by our golfers to maintain the appearance of the courses. Your use of receptacles would be appreciated. Let's make golf an enjoyable activity for all. Please make an extra effort by properly disposing of litter, yours and someone else's, when you see it. It is just like fixing an additional ball mark on the green along with your own.  One more thing, please drop those broken tees in the Tee Caddy. Thank you in advance for your efforts to keep our courses beautiful, clean and playable.

Homeowner Satisfaction Survey

SECOND ANNUAL SATISFACTION SURVEY                                      We want to hear from you

Last Saturday you should have received the satisfaction survey.

This survey is similar to a report card in that it uses your input regarding the progress of Management and the Board toward attaining the goals in the Master Plan. Your opinions are appreciated and valued. The results of the survey will be used by Management, Board, and committees to adapt goals

Because this survey tool does not allow you to go back to a previous page when taking the survey, you may preview the survey on the homeowner page of the IronOaks website before you actually complete the survey.  Click here to view survey

If you have neighbors and friends who do not have computer access, please encourage them to complete paper copies of the survey that can be found at the Ironwood and Oakwood Clubhouses. You may also download a copy of the survey from the IronOaks website and give it to them. Because this survey is being conducted by a few volunteer homeowners at no cost to the HOA, we ask only those without computer access complete the paper surveys.

If you have questions or concerns about the online survey, please submit a comment card so we can assist you.

The survey will conclude at 4:00 p.m. on February 11, 2015

Halley Gate

Halley Gate Fountain Update                                     update_paper_hdr.jpg

Homeowners can look forward to having the Halley fountain flowing once again!

Ron Kotnik, our Facilities Director, will be presenting at the January Board Meeting a plan to re-plumb the fountain at the Halley Gate.  Lake water from the lake behind the fountain will go from the lake and circulate through the fountain and back into the lake. This will save on water bills, help the circulation in that lake, and cut the frequency for needed maintenance to the fountain. If the work is approved, all of it should be completed, including new lighting, before the end of February.

Ironwood Swimming Pools

Ironwood Swimming Pool Gas Lines Update

The problem with heating the Ironwood pools started last October when a gas leak was discovered. That was fixed promptly, however, subsequent testing showed another leak. Several utility locating companies were called in to try to locate the gas pipes, but to no avail. Southwest Gas is currently working to develop and engineer a quote to run a gas line down Halley Drive to supply natural gas to the Halley pool and in front of the Ironwood Clubhouse to Ribbonwood to the Voax pool. The projected date Southwest Gas gave for this quote to be received is January 23. The Facilities Department hopes to have the whole project completed before the end of February.

Due to great response in 2014, your Conservation Committee has arranged for more "Caring for Your IronOaks Home" seminars, this time with more room and the stage in the Ballroom.

Mike Scully, owner of our new common-area landscaping service company, will present seminars on caring for our yards in this desert landscape. Mike has every designation possible as well as most awards someone in his business can receive. His knowledge of Arizona, our water, our plants and caring for them is vast. Even if you attended last year's presentations, you will learn something new from Mike.

We have made arrangements with Sunsets to open at 4:30 pm to accommodate early diners each evening. Since Tuesdays are comfort food night, there should be something delicious for everyone.

Reservations are required to guarantee you will have a chair.   Please email ConservationSLS@gmail.com and tell us which sessions you will attend and who you are registering. Also, let us know if you have questions about your landscape you would like to ask during the question and answer session.

These seminars were so popular last year we ran out of space. We have room for 200 this year. Please tell your neighbors and friends to register early too. The public is welcome, but IronOaks homeowners come first.

A Message From The Plant Lady

Are you killing your plants with kindness?                          plant.jpg

Something is not right. Your plants look sickly, yellow, droopy and pathetic. All of these symptoms do not necessarily mean that you need to water. The number one cause of plant failure is too much water.

Healthy roots are the foundation of healthy plants. They not only need water, they need oxygen. Over watering displaces the oxygen in the soil and the tiny root hairs that take in water get crushed and rot. The soil will be damp, but the plant will be wilted.

How do you know whether your plants need more or less water? For indoor or outdoor potted plants, simply feel the soil. Most plants like to go dry to the touch before watering again.  If there is any moisture to the touch, wait a few days before watering. Caution! Do not use water that has been softened with salt to water any plants. When it is time to water, use a method called "soak and cycle." Wet the soil with enough water to cover the top layer of soil. If a plant is very dry, the water will just run off the surface, down the sides of the pot, and out the bottom, never getting to the roots. Add just enough water to allow it to soak in. Wait at least 15 minutes or more for the water to soak in, then add the last amount of water. Any water sitting in the saucer after 30 minutes should be discarded.
