Web Site Tips

Lady on ComputerThere is an easy way to locate folks who live in IronOaks.  Log on to the web site. Go to Owner Home and click on Website Directory.  Once there, you will find all homeowners listed alphabetically.  Simply click of the letter of the person's last name and scroll until you locate them. Much easier than going through the phone book!
President's Message
multicolor-ornaments.jpg

For the last several years, homeowners have had the option of contributing to the employee holiday fund. We are asking you, as we have in the past, to participate in showing appreciation for the work provided by our staff. Currently we have over 220 dedicated hard-working employees serving us and our community of over 4000 homes.

We realize that not all homeowners support the idea of an Employee Appreciation Fund, or might wish to donate at different levels. For this reason, the Holiday Fund is not funded through the Association's budget, but rather voluntarily on your part. Like other businesses, we would like to be able to let our employees know that they are appreciated and to thank to them for their commitment to us, the homeowners of IronOaks.

Should you wish to contribute, please make your check payable to IronOaks at Sun Lakes. Please put "Holiday Fund" on the memo line, and drop it off at the Concierge desk at the Oakwood Clubhouse

Warm Regards,

David Peters

President, IronOaks Board of Directors

Thank You

A Heartfelt Thank You To Our Three Retiring Board of Directors Members

David Peters has served for three years on the Board, and this past year stepped into the position of Board President. Under his direction, the Board has implemented workshops to further communication with the homeowners, developed a process for proposing FACE Fund projects, oversaw the reorganization of committees and formed several ad-hoc committees to deal with specific issues.

Wayne Karp has also served on the Board for three years, both as Vice President and member at large. Wayne's focus has been on helping to choose, develop and maintain the IronOaks Web Site, and he served as the Board Liaison to the Communications Committee. He has worked along with Karen Jorgensen and Frank Gould as a member of the task force charged with reorganizing the Committee structure.

Karen Jorgensen was tapped to fill a one year vacancy on the Board. Although she served for slightly less than a year, she was a member of the task force to reorganize the committees and served as the Board Liaison to the Architectural Landscaping Committee.

The community thanks these three retiring members for their service and desire to make IronOaks a community we can all be proud of.

  Survey Thanks

Committee Corner

The Committee Page of the IronOaks website makes it easier for homeowners to find the latest minutes, agendas and to see names of fellow homeowners who serve on each committee.... click here to see more. The charters for each committee are also listed.

NOTE: Committee minutes reflect discussion items and/or recommendations to the Board ONLY. Unless an item is submitted and approved by the Board, it is considered for discussion only.

If you have an interest in any of our committees and/or have a talent that you feel can benefit our community, please contact Natasha Bell. Please specify your talents and interest.

Master Planning Update

Master Planning News

In November and December, the Master Planning Committee reviewed five capital project proposals submitted by homeowners. The committee found that all were in keeping with the Master Plan and with the community's Core Purpose and Core Values.

The finding does not constitute an endorsement. However, it recognizes the proposals are in keeping with the desire for IronOaks to maintain itself as "an active adult lifestyle community with resort style amenities."

Proposals considered were:
  • Creation of a multi-purpose park in an open area behind the Oakwood Clubhouse (13-002).
  • Development of a centralized administrative offices center (13-004).
  • Converting the Ironwood clay tennis courts into a park setting, perhaps featuring bocce courts. (14-001)
  • Development of pickleball courts on part of the parking lot nearest the Oakwood kiddie pool. (14-006)
  • Substantial expansion of the IronOaks fitness center. (14-016)
In each case, the Master Planning Committee cautioned that further consideration of these and other projects should be done only within the context of a comprehensive plan to address the lack of available development space, future amenities needs and the problem of supplying adequate parking.

The committee appreciates work done by homeowners in putting forth their suggestions. In every case, project advocates came before the committee to cite reasons for their proposal.

More information on these and other capital project suggestions can be found on the homeowner section of the of the web site at:

Conservation Committee

Mark Your Calendars                                                      cactus.jpg

Due to the large response from previous seminars, the Conservation Committee has arranged for more "Caring for Your IronOaks Home" seminars to be held.

Mike Scully, owner of the new common-area landscaping service company, Sustainable Landscaping Services, will present seminars on caring for desert landscaping. Mike is highly respected  and has received numerous awards for his work. His knowledge of Arizona, our water, our plants and caring for them is vast. Even if you attended last year's presentations, you will learn something new from Mike.

We have made arrangements with Sunsets at Oakwood to open at 4:30pm to accommodate early diners each evening. Since Tuesdays are comfort food night, there should be something delicious for everyone.

Reservations are required so we know how many chairs to set up. Please help us plan. Email ConservationSLS@gmail.com, tell us which sessions you want to attend, and names of the people you are registering.

These seminars were so popular last year we ran out of space. Please tell your neighbors and  friends to register early. The public is welcome but IronOaks homeowners will have priority.

All seminars will begin at 6:00 pm in the Oakwood Ballroom.

February 10 - Landscaping 101: Soils, Plants, Fertilizer, Pesticides

February 17 - Landscape Design: Planting Composition, General Irrigation

February 24 - Shrubs and Ground cover, Types of Pruning, Selective Pruning

March 3 - Trees: Desert-adapted, Citrus, Tropical, Planting, Staking, Pruning, Watering

Event Contact and Operating Hours Info

Events Manager Contact & Operating Hours Infoevent4.jpg

Jackie Bolton, the new Association Events Manager, has already shown to be a great asset to the organization! She has jumped right in and begun to reach out to many members to finalize events! However, we do understand that there is still a backlog of missed calls, emails and communications that have accumulated in the absence of an Events Manager in the past two months. Jackie will continue to work diligently to catch us up! In the meantime we appreciate your patience. Jackie will be contacting event coordinators in the order of event, reaching out to those with an immediate event first.

Effective December 15, 2014, Jackie's hours of operations will be Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Afternoons are the best times to schedule meetings; however, she will remain flexible to your needs!  You may reach Jackie at 480-317-3609 or jbolton@slhoa3.com

Thank you again for your patience. Jackie is looking forward to working with you in the future!

Customer Satisfaction Month

Our core purpose is to create, protect and promote an active adult lifestyle community with resort style amenities and to enhance the community's value. Essentially, we are here to make a difference in the lives of our members. Every action or inaction creates the environment in which our members reside, dine, exercise and golf in! One can see how a customer service driven approach would be necessary!

Last October we embarked upon the first annual Customer Satisfaction Month to further facilitate the initiative of achieving our core purpose. This year, December will mark our second annual Customer Satisfaction Month!

The following bullet points detail how Customer Satisfaction Month will operate:

  • Success pins will be provided to all Staff Managers, Committee Chairs and Board Members, and will also be made available at amenity venues. Please look for them upon entry!
  • Each time you notice that an employee has gone above and beyond to provide the utmost guest satisfaction, present the employee with a pin.
  • At the end of the month, the employees' pins will be collected and tallied. The employee with the most pins will be selected as the 2015 Customer Satisfaction Champion! The Customer Satisfaction Champion will be announced at the January Board meeting as well as through Stay in the Loop.
  • This pertains to all staff members!

We appreciate and look forward to your participation!
