General Manager's Message

February 26, 2014 (written on 2/22/14)

Financial Summary for the Association (All Depts.) Due to the untimely resignation of our former Controller, we do not yet have closing financial statements for December or for 2013. We did look into hiring an outside firm to perform that function, but the cost was prohibitive. Our new Controller, Faye Stone, started Monday Feb 24th. Closing out the books for last year will be a high priority. It still appears that we will have good Year End financial news from the F&B Dept, but it is too early to be certain.

Vacation Watch - What is it?

VACATION WATCH - What is it?

Vacation Watch is a service provided for $5.00 per month or portion of a month, effective January 1, 2014, for those who choose to use it. The $5.00 charge is to offset some of the expense of administering a Vacation Watch program. There is a special Patrol Officer that drives around in a golf cart, checking every house that has signed up for this service. A stop is made at each house and the Officer walks around the house checking for such things as gas leaks, water leaks, open doors, broken windows, newspapers left on driveway, packages left at the front door, etc. If a discrepancy is noted, then the Officer contacts your caretaker, if you have listed one on the form. If you do not have a caretaker, then the Officer will try to contact you. Many times, when calling the caretaker and giving the information of what we have found, we hear a statement similar to "we were just there yesterday." So, in essence, this is an extra precautionary measure that you take to insure that your house is getting as much protection as is possible while you are away.

Recently there was an article in the SPLASH that said THANK GOODNESS for Oakwood Patrol. Seems that the Vacation Watch Officer smelled gas as he approached the home, and called Southwest Gas. The gas company came out immediately and found that there was a leak in the outside gas pipes. The gas was shut off, avoiding a possible disaster.

Wishing you all a safe and secure Vacation.

Director of Patrol

  A Dog Owner's Responsibility!

Many of our IronOaks residents have dogs and love them. However, there are a few of our neighbors that perhaps need to be reminded of their responsibilities of being a dog owner.

Our Documents and local Maricopa County and the City of Chandler have laws that address this issue.

Maricopa County's leash law prohibits pet owners from allowing their dog to run at large outside the Homeowner's property at any time. The dog must be confined to the home or property, either inside the home or within an enclosed yard. When a dog is outside of its confined area, it must be restrained on a leash that is no longer than six feet in length.

Maricopa County Field Enforcement work encompasses multiple duties. Officers enforce animal control ordinances such as leash laws. They also respond to calls about dangerous dogs and dog bites and rescue injured animals and bring them to the clinic for care. Barking dogs, dogs not on a leash, or other problems should be reported Maricopa Animal Control can be contacted at (602) 506-PETS(7387).

It is also a violation of our C C & R's and subject to citations and ultimately a fine. Article IV, Section 2 (a), pages 16 and 17 includes specific language that "all pets must be kept in a fenced yard or on a leash at all times." Also, "it shall be the responsibility of each Owner to remove immediately any droppings from pets." It is always helpful if you know the pet owner's address.

When these events occur, you should call Mobile Patrol at 480-797-6508.

Be a good and thoughtful neighbor!

Spring Break

Spring Break is rapidly approaching. With the influx of children and grand children, there are some Rules that we all need to be aware of:

  1. Owners assume all risks of loss or injury to themselves or to their Guests, Visitors or Tenants when they are using Common Areas.
  2. Use of skate boards is prohibited in Common Areas.
  3. No bicycles or motorized vehicles may be ridden on the walking paths unless they are being used by employees for maintenance purposes.
  4. Bicyclists and pedestrians are urged to exercise appropriate caution when using streets and roads in and around IronOaks. Bicycle and pedestrian access gates are provided at every entry/exit location to enable users to avoid both vehicle traffic and automated gate operations. Residents may secure access keys from IronOaks Patrol Office.
  5. Only licensed drivers are permitted to operate a motorized vehicle, including golf carts, on HOA streets.

Gone Fishing

Stay tuned for further information. We have a core group that is interested in fly fishing. They want to know more about it, including where the best spots are in AZ and what equipment in necessary. We've located an expert through the Orvis store and he has agreed to come to us and share some of his experience and expertise.

We are set for next Thursday, March 6th at 7:00 pm in the Green Briar Room for his first presentation. This will likely be followed by an excursion to one of our own lakes for a demo and basic lesson in casting. Equipment will be provided.

This will be followed by a couple of actual fish trips for those interested. Keep your eye on Stay In The Loop for further details.

Weeds! Weeds! Weeds!

It's that time of year when it doesn't take long after the recent rains and the warming temperatures those awful nuisances known as weeds start to appear. Homeowners are reminded to patrol their yards and check for weeds that seem to have sprung up, almost overnight. Please take the time to walk around your front and back yards and see that there are no weeds. You will have to do this periodically for a while to be sure that you keep them at bay. If we all participate we will keep our community looking at its best.Thank you.
