President's Report

President's Report

February 26, 2014

I would like to start by saying that I appreciate the vote of confidence afforded me by the members of the Board. I would also like to say that I hope to gain the support of the homeowners as we work to evolve IronOaks to a place that fulfills the promise of our Core Purpose. I do not expect to have perfect harmony every time - all the time. I recall the words of a song that I heard some time ago. I don't remember the song title or the artist but the words have stayed with me. "There are no good guys, there are no bad guys - there is only you and me and we just disagree".

I hope that we can disagree in a civil manner and find compromise that moves us forward.

My style is direct and (I hope) unambiguous. I don't like lengthy email exchanges as that is not communication in my opinion. If we can't get agreement in one or two exchanges, let's meet face to face and work together. The people you see seated before you have resolved to work in the best interests of IronOaks.

Next - the Change of Use Vote was not a vote against Pickleball. It was a vote to not change the use of Tennis Courts 3 and 4. The fate of Pickleball in IronOaks is yet to be resolved. Hopefully after the rhetoric has been reduced to saner levels we can find a solution that works for all.

There are some events and issues to keep in mind in the following weeks:

-          We are in the time of year when seeds sprout and plants begin to bloom. There are instances of weed growth that may start to appear on properties that may be vacant or need attending. The ALC Department has its hands full and would appreciate a heads up when you see a property that needs attention.

-          On March 5th the Board will conduct a Goals Workshop at which time we hope to identify the areas that need our collective attention whether they involve Board, Committee, or individual action.

-          Lastly the HOA is sponsoring a Committee Appreciation Lunch on March 23rd. Committee members are encouraged to advise the administration staff of their intent to attend. Spouses or Significant Others are welcome.

I look forward to working with all of you to make 2014 a successful year for IronOaks.

Respectfully

David Peters

President

GM Message

General Manager's Message

I am occasionally shocked by the actions and attitudes of

some of our members and I think it is time that this issue is addressed openly. I'm not talking about differences of opinion or "political issues" and how those are addressed, but rather issues of common courtesy and decency to our fellow members and to our staff. This is becoming a serious issue

and yes, I do understand that it is an issue with only a very small minority of the membership. This message is addressed to those few and hopefully will not to offend the vast majority.

Gone Fishing

Stay tuned for further information. We have a core group that is interested in fly fishing. They want to know more about it, including where the best spots are in AZ and what equipment in necessary. We've located an expert through the Orvis store and he has agreed to come to us and share some of his experience and expertise.

We are set for next Thursday, March 6th at 7:00 pm in the Green Briar Room for his first presentation. This will likely be followed by an excursion to one of our own lakes for a demo and basic lesson in casting. Equipment will be provided.

This will be followed by a couple of actual fish trips for those interested. Keep your eye on Stay In The Loop for further details.

Introducing the Plant Lady...

You know you're not in Kansas anymore when...

You don't know the plants.

You don't know how much water they need

You don't know how to prune them.

You don't know if or when to fertilize them.

You don't know why the leaves are all yellow.

You don't recognize the weeds.

and...

Your neighbor doesn't know either.

Bring your questions, samples of plants to be identified, or comments to "The Plant Lady" immediately following the Coffee Chat with Clark meeting in the Oakwood Clubhouse,

11:00 am to 12:00 pm, on March 4th.

Architectural Landscape Control

Weeds! Weeds! Weeds!

It's that time of year when it doesn't take long after the recent rains and the warming temperatures those awful nuisances known as weeds start to appear. Homeowners are reminded to patrol their yards and check for weeds that seem to have sprung up, almost overnight. Please take the time to walk around your front and back yards and see that there are no weeds. You will have to do this periodically for a while to be sure that you keep them at bay. If we all participate we will keep our community looking at its best.Thank you.
