Message from the General Manager

Come and Join the Excitement

We have good news and not so good news to share. First the good news; our newly revived Food and Beverage Dept. is doing very well. Carrie Zinman, Director of Food & Beverage, has implemented ongoing training for the servers and Chef Mark has new fresh specials and menus in place. All in all it is a vastly improved dining experience which is drawing many positive Comment Cards. It has been a major effort but well worth it and it is now paying off with greater revenue. This is the good news.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, the good news has spread quickly. Now we are having to scramble to hire more staff to accommodate the increased business. This week we've been able accommodate several large groups (25-60 people) in addition to a full house, and from time to time the service has been a little too slow due to the volume. We are in the process of hiring addition staff in order to handle the increased business. It is really fun to see the dining room so full of happy people again.
We should be back up to fully staffed next week and we hope you will join us for a
great meal.
IronOaks First Annual Homeowner Survey Update

LAST CHANCE TO TAKE FIRST ANNUAL HOMEOWNER SURVEY

The survey will close on line on February 3, and paper copies will be picked up at 4:00 p.m. the same day.

As of Jan. 26, over 1,100 homeowners had completed the survey online. That is over 25% of the homes in IronOaks. We would like to have more surveys completed. Your input is important. The survey results will help volunteer homeowner committees, the board, and management make decisions reflecting community desires.

The online survey takes less than 15 minutes to complete. If you receive Stay in the Loop and have not yet completed the survey, please check your inbox. It has been sent three times to those who have not yet completed it. If you would like to read the survey before taking the actual survey, click on this link: Click here

If you have friends and neighbors who do not receive Stay in the Loop, please remind them paper copies are available at the clubhouses at Ironwood and Oakwood.

Come Out Enjoy the Farmer's Market at Oakwood

IRONOAKS FARMER'S MARKET ON FEBRUARY 4

2014 marks the second year MM Events has sponsored a Farmer's Market at Oakwood Clubhouse parking lot. We have a wonderful new farmer with fresh produce and fruit. Fresh artisan breads baked the morning of the market, healthy avocado oils, vinaigrettes, stuffed olives, balsamic vinegars, condiments, dried cranberries, cakes, pies, relishes, jams, jellies, and honey. Do you like free range eggs, pastas, shrimp ceviche, pickles, frozen ready to reheat cooked dinners and desserts, cheese curds, variety of jerky including exotic jerky such as venison, elk, kangaroo, antelope, dips, and mustards. How about some Amish organic products, pastas, Watkins products, a knife sharpener who sharpens scissors, knives and shears, bath and beauty products, plus some unique handcrafts. The Farmer's Market in Oakwood is held the first Tuesday of each month from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm through April 2014.

Patrol Corner...

We have had three confirmed mail thefts in the Cottonwood area on Monday and Tuesday, January 27th and 28th. The US Postal Inspectors have been contacted and are agressively investigating. The "bad guys" did unsuccessfully try to cash a check at a local bank and the US Postal Service is trying to gather video at this time.

We will keep you informed of any further developments.

Conservation Seminars a Real Success!

The Conservation Committee wants to thank everyone who attended and responded so positively.

Homeowners' response to this series exceeded the space originally reserved and larger spaces in the Oakwood Clubhouse have now been secured for successive sessions. Those who want to attend any of the sessions, must register at murbanaz@gmail.com so adequate seating and handouts are available. Please plan to arrive a little early so everyone can get their handouts and the speaker can start on time.

Since most of us have moved to IronOaks from somewhere very unlike Arizona, the Conservation Committee planned these seminars to help homeowners live more compatibly with our desert environment. Initially aimed at new homeowners, the committee hoped other residents would be interested, and is overwhelmed at the response. They are planning additional sessions on landscape care and irrigation, energy and water saving in the home, and recycling options. If you have suggestions for future subjects or speakers, please use the Comment Card section of the IronOaks website at www.ironoakshoa.org.

The remaining sessions include:

  • February 4 - John Smith - The Green Plumber 6:00 pm
  • February 11 - Going Green Solar - Everything You Wanted to Know about Solar 6:00 pm

Ironwood's Men's Golf Association (IMGA)

IRONWOOD MEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION

The Ironwood Men's Golf Association (IMGA) has a reputation of having fun and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow members during and after playing the game. IMGA has a morning and afternoon shotgun every Tuesday playing flighted and field games. To accomplish all of this, the league is privileged to have at least 30 volunteers including the 4 elected officers and 8 chairs with standing committees. IMGA has taken the lead to recognize the need to utilize different tee colors for flight assignments. During 2013, the league instituted a "Combined Tee Policy" for those whose index meets the requirement. Active enrollment in IMGA is around 240 members.  The league returns over $15,000 each year in the form of chits by paying half the field entered in league play including 12 closest to the pin winners each week. IMGA will be providing a logo golf shirt to all 2014 pre paid members for the first time.
IMGA has a policy of 10 postable rounds of golf during a league event to qualify for the two major tournaments each year. January has a three consecutive round of net play to win the Ironwood Cup. March has a three consecutive round of gross play to win the Club Championship. In addition to those major tournaments, IMGA has its highly successful and well supported Member-Guest Tournament. There is also an awards luncheon held in December to honor all of the winners of the past year.
So, in conclusion, $110.00 will get you a full membership in the Ironwood Men's Golf Association including the GHIN/AGA fee and a league membership number. You can find us on line at Ironwood Men's Golf Association http://imgaadmin.powweb.com/IMGA/ or come on over to Ironwood on a Tuesday to meet the members.

Please be Aware and Watch out for this Scam!

JURY DUTY

Pass this on to your grown children and anyone else you can think of. This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury duty coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the Scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo-your identity was just stolen. The fraud has been reported in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, Colorado, AZ, OR and more. This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.

IronOaks New Paint Colors Palette

The Architectural Landscape Committee (ALC) recently approved the selection of house and trim colors. The recommended combinations are based on coordinating the stucco and trim colors with the various roof tile colors of our homes. There is a color selection for the stucco and a choice of one of the two corresponding trim colors. The selection of the paint colors that coordinate with the tile color were suggested by the color experts at Dunn-Edwards. However:

  • You may select any stucco color from the palette.
  • You may select any single trim color from the palette
  • You may use the stucco color selected as the trim color.
  • Garage doors may be painted the stucco color selected.
  • Garage doors may be painted the trim color, provided the trim color is lighter than the stucco color. If the trim color is darker than the stucco color, the garage door must be painted the stucco color.

Examples of the colors are available for viewing at the ALC Office in the Arts & Crafts Building and the ALC staff will be available to answer questions Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon.
