YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT!
Rev. Abhi Janamanchi
Worship Associate
Mary Thornton
Meditation has many purposes: healing, mental clarity, mindfulness, and relaxation. Meditation is not an escape from as much as a deeper engagement with life. It represents the appropriateness and necessity of participating in life-as-it-is. The service will explore meditation as a spiritual practice.

Children's Religious Enrichment | |
There's a PARENT MEETING May 5th 9:30am to 10:15am Social Hall
Please join Rev. Abhi and Christine Pensa for this special RE parent meeting. Learn about the future plans of our Religious Enrichment Program and Youth Group. Let's recharge our spiritual batteries as we begin a new journey together. Bagels, muffins, coffee and juice will be served as a light breakfast.
What's happening in RE this Sunday
On the First Sunday of the month the children and youth come together in the Maxwell Library/Social Hall at 10:30 am to participate in a special worship service designed just for them; an opportunity for children to do church in a way they can understand.
Our theme for May is spiritual practice. Spiritual practice can come in many forms: meditation, prayer, teaching, art, music, talking, etc... We will also be talking about Florida and the wonderful things (and not so wonderful things like fire ants) that we experience.
Are you looking for a way to recharge your spiritual batteries? Do you enjoy meaningful conversations and discussions? Do you like to have fun? Then consider sharing your life experiences and questions with the children and youth of our Religious Enrichment Program. Embrace teaching as a spiritual practice to gain a deeper understanding of your own faith development and Unitarian Universalism as a whole. Please see Christine Pensa, our Religious Educator, after the worship service for additional information.

Ches Applewhite is our April Above and Beyond Honoree, and she really does do it all. Ches is the leader of our media team. She recruits volunteers to work in the sound booth. She works in there herself adjusting the lighting and the sound, videotaping, copying CDs and DVDs, etc., etc. On most Sundays you will also find her in the Social Hall with a full inventory of digitally recorded services to sell. Ches is a real star in the UU volunteer corps and we greatly appreciate her dedication and hard work. Thank you, Ches. BTW, she says there are openings on the media team. Check it out.

On Friday, May 3rd ,we continue discussing the book "A Land Remembered" by Patrick D. Smith. We finish discussing the book on May 10.
On Friday, May 17th, we begin discussing the book Brave Companions: Portraits In History by David McCullough. We finish the book on May 24th, which will be our last meeting until the fall.
The bestselling author of Truman and John Adams, David McCullough has written profiles of exceptional men and women past and present who have not only shaped the course of history or changed how we see the world but whose stories express much that is timeless about the human condition.
Here are Alexander von Humboldt, whose epic explorations of South America surpassed the Lewis and Clark expedition; Harriet Beecher Stowe, "the little woman who made the big war"; Frederic Remington; the extraordinary Louis Agassiz of Harvard; Charles and Anne Lindbergh, and their fellow long-distance pilots Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and Beryl Markham; Harry Caudill, the Kentucky lawyer who awakened the nation to the tragedy of Appalachia; and David Plowden, a present-day photographer of vanishing America.
Different as they are from each other, McCullough's subjects have in common a rare vitality and sense of purpose. These are brave companions: to each other, to David McCullough, and to the reader, for with rare storytelling ability McCullough brings us into the times they knew and their very uncommon lives.
Reader's Forum is led by Catherine & John Conover and meets every Friday at 10 a.m. It is free, with only a suggested $5 donation per month for coffee. All are welcome. For more information, go to Readers Forum. |
