Board of Trustees
President |
Please make every effort to attend the service next Sunday as we have a special speaker. Gini Courter, the out-going UUA moderator. Although a volunteer position, the moderator being the chief governance officer, chairs the Board of Trustees meetings and the annual plenary (business) sessions at the UUA General Assemblies. Gini is a dynamite speaker and is going through her own life changes as she is not running for moderator after serving since 2003. She will be speaking on "transitions". To give everyone a chance to ask Gini questions, we have arranged for lunch in the social hall after the service. We are ordering a cake to honor Gini's service to the UUA and will order sandwiches from Subway for lunch ($5). Childcare will be available. After lunch, we will gather and have the opportunity to ask questions about the UUA, the transition we have started, and her own transition. If you can help with the lunch, please let me know. We need people to serve, take the money, and clean-up. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday. Susan Please email Susan if you can help with Sunday's lunch. |

Bruce is a new volunteer with the UUC Media Team, who is producing podcasts of every message for our webmaster to add to our website. Bruce is also duplicating the CDs and DVDs of services that people order in the Social Hall on Sundays after service. Many thanks to Bruce for his efforts in helping get the message out. And thanks to those who are ordering duplicate discs to send to cuzzins, parents and siblings, and friends. |

On Friday April 12th we finish discussing the book "Galileo's Daughter: A Historical Memoir of Science, Faith, and Love" by Dava Sobel. We revisit the life of the great Italian scientist through the eyes of his eldest daughter, a cloistered nun.
On Friday, April 19th we begin discussing the book "A Land Remembered" by Patrick D. Smith. The story opens with a rich but despondent Solomon Macivey as he cruises along Biscayne Bay in his silver Rolls Royce, then jumps back in time to 1858, when his grandfather, Tobias MacIvey, arrives in the Florida wilderness to start a new life with his wife and infant son. The sweeping story that emerges is a rich, rugged Florida history featuring a memorable cast of crusty, indomitable Crackers battling wild animals, rustlers, Confederate deserters, mosquitoes, starvation, hurricanes, and freezes to carve a kingdom out of a swamp. They survive and prosper, but at a high cost. No wonder this novel is such a hit! A Land Remembered was winner of the Florida Historical Society Tebeau Prize as the Most Outstanding Florida Historical Novel.
Reader's Forum is led by Catherine & John Conover and meets every Friday at 10 a.m. It is free, with only a suggested $5 donation per month for coffee. All are welcome. For more information, go to Readers Forum. |

This film describes the remarkable courage of a young couple who risked their lives to personally rescue hundreds of Jews from Nazi persecution. It includes several interviews with men and women who were young children when the Sharps brought them to the United States. |
