The God Particle

The discovery of the Higgs boson fills a crucial gap in what is called the Standard Model, which describes the fundamental particles from which everything in the universe is made and the forces acting between them. Scientists now tentatively affirm that there is a recognizable and fundamental building block of the universe at work.  The service will explore what this discovery means for our ongoing quest to understand the deeper mysteries of existence.

RELUDE: Allegretto.........Kaspar Kummer

SPECIAL MUSIC: Andante......Franz Doppler

OFFERTORY: Rondo............Franz Doppler

Debbie Langrock and Becky Muir have chosen delightful music for two flutes. Kaspar Kummer and Franz Doppler both composed primarily for the flute and were virtuoso flutists as well. Doppler often toured with his brother, Carl, also a flutist, and wrote the Andante and Rondo for Two Flutes and Piano, Op.25 for their collaborative programs. Today's music is lovingly played in memory of our dear friend and St. Patrick's Day flutist, Pat McGiverin.

Message from the Board
Susan Hegner

One of the important duties of the Board of Trustees is about policy and procedure. Keeping in mind UUC's mission and vision, at their February meeting, the Board reviewed a proposed Calendar and Building Use Policy. This proposed policy is being refined and will come before the Board for a vote at the March meeting. At the same meeting, the Board approved a policy regarding gifts to UUC both to the operating fund, reserved funds, or other specially designated gifts. To make sure that the policy can be easily followed, the Board will be working on the procedure for the policy. We are thankful to John Conover for posting all policies and procedures on the member page of the UUC website. Also, thanks to Joan Goldhammer who has taken on the awesome task of reading all past Board minutes with the intent to advise the Board about all motions approved in the past regarding policy. Those will be reviewed and if necessary, edited or rewritten and brought before the board for review and vote. Our present Board members are a responsible and hard working group. Besides the monthly meetings, they take turns welcoming the congregation during the service, attending the executive meetings where the Board agenda is prepared, and writing a monthly Board report in the Octagram. A majority of the Board members are also serving as visiting stewards for the current operating budget campaign. We have managed with one exception to start the meetings on time and to end before 9 pm. I am grateful and awed to be serving with such a wonderful group.

 Susan Hegner, Board President

Pledges of Support Requested by March 17

Thank you for welcoming the stewardship callers.  And we recognize that most members of our congregation are busy people with lots of commitments and full calendars.  Many of our callers have had wonderful conversations with new and old friends.  And, some have been unsuccessful in connecting YET.  They will keep trying! In the meantime, we invite you to look over the Fair Share Giving grid on the stewardship brochure, check in with your priorities and your heart, and make your pledge decision by submitting the pledge form to the UUC on Sunday, March 17.  If you did not receive a pledge form, you can print it from our website in the member section under Stewardship Forms.

As a congregation we are currently planning our budget for the coming year and want to be sure that we are building our plans on your priorities and support of the vision and mission.  The pledge of support that members provide is an important element in our planning process.  If you generously provide money in the offering plate, we encourage you to turn that into a pledge of support so that we are better able to plan for the coming year.  And be sure when you put money into the plate that you do it by check or by cash in an envelope with your name on the outside so that your contribution is recorded.
