Special Congregational Meeting
Rescheduled for Sunday, March 17 |
The Special Congregational Meeting on February 10th has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 17th. We wanted to be certain to provide the congregation with full and accurate information, including cost estimates for the project concepts, well in advance of the meeting.
We are working diligently to provide this information in a confident and timely manner. We are also working with our architect to make sure we have three excellent concepts that are within the range of what we expect to be able to afford or within our first-cut budget. We expect to have the information available on our web site soon and well in advance of the meeting date of March 17th.

In The Greater Journey, he tells the enthralling, inspiring, and until now, untold story of the adventurous American artists, writers, doctors, politicians, and others who set off for Paris in the years between 1830 and 1900, hungry to learn and to excel in their work. What they achieved would profoundly alter American history.

Standing On the Side of Love 30 Days of Love UUC joined other UU congregations in celebrating 30 days of Love. Until February 17th, the Social Justice Council and Others in our UUC Community are sponsoring a series of events which will make this a time of intentional action, service, education, reflection and fellowship. The UU District Choral Festival will be the spirited closing. Wear your UUC or Standing on the Side of Love to all events. For a listing of the 30 Days of Love events see the Event Flier, visit the Social Justice Table after the service or contact us. |

This may be the year that CIR (Comprehensive Immigration Reform) actually happens. Members of the Social Justice Team have been meeting (by Congressional district) to work with a wide coalition of groups (church, immigrant rights groups', labor, and others) to pressure our congresspeople to support CIR. The principles we have been supporting are those proposed by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
We will be collecting surveys this Sunday to present to Rep. Young to inform him about our hopes for immigration reform. Other congregations around District 13 will also be doing this and we hope to present Rep, Young with the surveys. Please take time to fill one out. (It's short)
Plans have been completed for the March for Rights, Respect, and Fair Food by the CIW (Coalition of Imokolee Workers) Here's a brief note ( read the whole article) "In Immokalee, February is greeted not as the month of Valentine's Day or the easing of the winter, but rather as the final stretch before launching the big spring action. And, indeed, a month from today, we will be setting out from Fort Myers on our way to Publix corporate headquarters in Lakeland -- and we would love nothing more than for you to join us!
With the march quickly approaching, farmworkers from the heart of the movement in Immokalee and allies from across the country are signing up to be a part of this 175-mile trek. Last week we posted a visual tour of the route via Google Maps. And now, starting today, you (and your family!) can sign up to join us for a day, a week, or the whole thing.
Please take a minute to register with us. A march like this is no small undertaking, and your information helps us with all the logistical details -- from organizing three nourishing meals a day to arranging beautiful places to stay -- that make these actions such a memorable experience"
Starting Sunday we will have a sign up at the SJ Table if you would like to march with CIW. In addition, we hope to have a large contigent when they arrive at Publix on March 17th. UUC will provide supper on Wednesday, March 13th, in Tampa. If you are a cook (or just a willing worker) please sign-up at the SJ Table or let an EJ Team member know you are interested in helping.
