Five Preservation Priorities
Preservation in Upper Makefield Township can be described as a 5-pronged approach: Land Preservation, Stormwater management, Wastewater management, Reforestation, and Recycling and Hazardous Waste Disposal.
In 2015 and early 2016, Upper Makefield officials have acted to permanently preserve easements on Diabase Farm, reviewed stormwater management plans, and updated Act 537, the Township wastewater management plan. Our UMTree Grant program continues, as does participation in Bucks County's Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste programs.
UMTree Grants
For Plantings Completed April through June 2016
More than 150 trees have been planted in Upper Makefield using the UMTree Grant program. You too can build Upper Makefield's arboreal future with financial help from the Upper Makefield Tree Grant Program. You may receive $25 per tree, up to 12 trees, in reimbursement when you plant native trees in riparian buffers or areas that will build wildlife habitats, such as trees that attract birds and butterflies. UMTree Grant application.
Volunteer to Protect Stormwater
Your organization may enjoy a project that would help our community! Volunteers can be gathered to coordinate a cleanup day or join our Inlet Inspector program to monitor neighborhood stormwater inlets. For details, contact Dave Kuhns, Director of Planning and Zoning.
