Have you seen this?

This is the best scarecrow display I have seen in a long time.

6A, Coming out of Barnstable Village going towards Yarmouth, on the right side of the road, you will see the cast of the Wizard of Oz all with Pumpkin heads!  It is fabulous!

When I was a kid, I remember my Grampa sitting down to read the dictionary.  No, not just looking something up.... but actually reading it.  He was the smartest man I knew.  Self taught, gentle, tall and he looked like Cary Grant to me.

Recently I downloaded the Dictionary.com App on my smartphone....

Wait.  I just re-read that sentence.  That would be so foreign to my Grampa.  I can see it now... the one eye arching over the top of his glasses, with one dark curly eyebrow peaked up. He wouldn't say anything, but you knew he was thinking. I would love to hear what he would say about all the technology we have today.

He might tell me to go pick up a book, more likely he would want to know more about my smartphone, I wonder.

But I digress.  The App has the Word Of The Day.  I love this! Today's word was CHTHONIAN! And yes I did double check the spelling.... "pertaining to the deities, spirits and other beings dwelling under the earth."  Oh how wonderfully spooky, and perfect for a garden center!!

I bet my grandfather would get some amusement from that.   Him with his book, me with my phone...

I try to use a bit of tech-y stuff when building this letter every week, and I am far from being an expert.  I add links to click on, so you can get a broader understanding of where my mind is that week, and let's face it, we all need to know where that would be.

Links like, Pinterest and Facebook, or I might send you to Wikipedia to get the definition of something specific.  Or I might send you to YouTube to see, the latest videos we have made to show you how something works...or, to hear Homer Simpson say DOH!

I use Apps on my wicked smahtphone... not a ton, but I am learning, and trying to keep up with my soon to be, teenage son.

There are some pretty cool things out there for gardeners as well.  Just go onto your play store App or iPhone App, and type in plant... or garden...

Hmm, maybe Country Garden should have an App. I might need to chew on that a bit....

Apps are great and all, but nothing replaces, actually talking to a person, who really knows what they are talking about.

AND That!, is where we can be of service!

What ever your question, we have someone here that can help you, or send you where you can get help.

So come on in, we have a ton of things happening this month!  Check out our Event list below.

Customer Rave of the week:

We posted on Facebook this week: What is your favorite product we sell?

Susan W. of Nantucket replied: With this great photo of her pond....

"My husband always keeps an empty jug for the fish food in our "off island" car so that he can replenish our supply on his way through Hyannis. I go to HCG almost every time I'm in "America", especially if I'm off with a car that is coming back over to Nantucket."

Thank you Susan!

Why Doesn't My Little

 Tree Grow Taller?

I was on a garden consultation recently and we came across a tiny weeping plant that was about a foot and a half tall.  It was a mound of curved stems and leaves, looking....  Read more here.
