Halloween is coming... Something scary is

a-brewing.... pumpkins, spooky decorations, Trick or Treating. How do you celebrate this spooky holiday? How do you get into the spooky vibe? This has always been my favorite holiday.  But interestingly enough, I am not a big fan of scary movies.... nope, I'd rather clean up my old, mushy tomato garden, than sit through one Friday the 13th or a Freddie Kruger movie.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a scary scene here and there....  Like the one in The Princess Bride where Princess Buttercup and Westley are going through the Fire Swamp with the R.O.U.S (Rodents of Unusual Size).... NOW THAT!.... is my kind of scary.

In the last couple of weeks we have been in a Dino Heaven here at H.C.G., and that's because we are introducing a new Mini Garden workshop. We have Dinosaurs all over the office. And I am, personally in line to re-watch Jurassic Park... even though it is, in my book, a little scary. After all, Halloween is close and you gotta get in the spirit, right?

But what a great idea, huh? We will get to dig for fossils, and get our hands in the dirt, to plant up mini Jurassic Parks to take home.  It will be our first foray into this and as we do more of them I could see it becoming as big as the Fairy Gardening. Check out our Pinterest page for Dino Gardening

After all, why do the Fairies get to have all the fun?  Actually I did some research and in celebration of the Halloween here is a link to some very scary Fairies: especial these 10.

Fall at Hyannis Country Garden is so beautiful!  Have you seen some of the art work done by Pumpkin Carvers?? There are some really talented people out there! You may want to take a look at our Pinterest Page -celebrating some very unique designs, and get inspired! If you make a fun pumpkin take a picture and post it to our Facebook page. We would love to see what you are up to!

Tips for Keeping Carved
 Pumpkins Fresh

Carved pumpkins look their best one to two days after carving, and rarely look good after seven days. It's best to wait until October 24th, but if you just can't, here are some tips to keeping your pumpkin designs fresh longer.

Pumpkins begin decomposing from harmless bacteria and fungi in the air and on your hands. To avoid transferring bacteria to the pumpkin, first wash your hands well with soap and water or a hand sanitizer. You'll also want to make sure your carving tools are clean. Then wipe the outside of the pumpkin down with a 10% bleach solution before making the first cut.

Once carved, you can keep your pumpkin carving fresh for up to.... Read more here

Do you know Rex Begonia?

from Houseplants.about.com

How to Grow Rex Begonia Species

Among the various types of begonias, the B. Rex are some of the most beautiful and stunning plants. Sometimes called painted-leaf begonias or fancy-leaf begonias, these plants are known for their showy, sometimes jaw-dropping leaf coloration. They frequently have large leaves (up to 6 in. long) that are brightly colored in various shades of green, red, silver, and even purple. These plants are grown almost exclusively for their foliage-their blooms tend to be....
