We asked, "If you were talking to a friend, what would you tell her about Art Camp?"

"Wow! It was really worth every penny and then some. The teachers were extremely knowledgeable. All taught just the way we needed to be instructed. Hands on was fabulous! All of the students were exceptionally personable the whole time!" - Julie, May 2011

We asked our Campers "If you were talking to a friend, what would you tell her about Art Camp?"

"(Camp) was one of my most wonderful life experiences.  The women were all so interesting.  The teachers were so very supportive and encouraging...I was a bit nervous before I came but after an hour here I was totally comfortable and eager to get started.  The choice of materials they provided to work with was phenomenal."  Joyce, Oct 2010 and Oct 2012

Greetings!

Spring Break for our area starts today. Next snow is predicted for tomorrow. It might be a very long week.

But as usual we have a number of distractions to keep us going until it warms up. And now we have the longer evenings to confuse - I mean inspire - us while waiting for summer.I do have my annuals started in pots indoors. I'm always optimistic for an early summer.

Speaking of summer - Our June camps just went to Wait List status! So if you are thinking about coming to camp in June -REGISTER NOW!

Our artist in the spotlight, Dea Fischer, is so inspiring that we spread her interview over two weeks you can see it below. This week she is also in providing a tutorial for us all to play with. I can't say enough about Dea, I wish she lived in my community or next door even.

Still to come in the Artist in the Spotlight series this year are Pam Carriker, Ingrid Dijkers,  Carla Sonheim and Becky Nunn and more. We hope to provide you with a new access to the wide diversity and fun of mixed-media art.

Lorri and Lori

We asked our Campers, "What is your favorite part of Camp?"

"Open studio time...being with other creative women, the flexibility to get outside to explore and walk, the food being prepared for us, all the amazing and diverse supplies to use, my roommate, playing games and just chit-chatting in the cozy living room, the supportive and helpful teachers and staff." - Paige, October 2012mp)

Dea Fischer - Artist/Teacher

Throw your dreams into space, like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back: a new life, a new friend, a new home, a new country. ~ Anais Nin

We, Lorri and Lori, have the enormous privilege of meeting many amazing women artists as we go along putting together our Art Camp offerings.  We can't have them all here at Art Camp - every year - so we are out to have you meet some of them for yourself.

In doing this interview with Dea - it is she that my dream brought back as a new friend - I(Lori) am again inspired by these women who invent themselves newly, as artists, everyday.

ACFW: What is the heart of the matter with you and your art?

Dea: Succinctly, I utilize art as a spiritual practice.  I am motivated by a fundamental need to meditate on spiritual themes related to our relationship with nature and the natural world, and our internal and external environment. Intense discussion on matters of the spirit do not form part of daily life for most of us, and yet the thoughts and ruminations remain.  Exploring them through my work is an act of meditation for me.

I am particularly intrigued by our relationship with nature.  We live in nature on an almost overwhelming scale in the Rockies, and it is easy for the eye to be constantly drawn upward to the vaulting horizon line.  I use my smaller-scale works to draw the eye to notice the incredible forms of the macro end of the scale, the boot-level ecosystems that are so often stepped over and overlooked while wandering, awe-struck by the greater vista.   Read More

We asked our Campers, "What were your favorite parts?"

"This is a must, an extraordinary adventure with amazing hosts, lovely people, fabulous guest artists, food and setting.  I could go on and on!"  Chris, October 2012

We asked, "If you were talking to a friend, what would you tell her about Art Camp?"

"I had a great time.  It was wonderful to get away and concentrate on art for a few days.  I really enjoyed Carla's lessons and learned new techniques.  Plus the food was yummy and healthy.  And it was so well organized!"
