The NLRB's controversial final rule overhauling its procedures for union elections, commonly known as the "ambush" elections rule, will be going into effect April 14 unless a court blocks enforcement of the new rule.

Historic Vote Shows Senate Supports Restricting PLA Mandates
|
During Vote-A-Rama, the U.S. Senate's unique tradition which gives senators a chance to have votes on numerous amendments to the Senate's must-pass budget resolution, the Senate passed an amendment containing language banning government-mandated project labor agreements (PLAs).

Obama Vetoes Resolution to Stop the Ambush Election Rule
|
President Obama March 31 signed a memorandum of disapproval effectively vetoing the joint resolution to block the NLRB's ambush election rule, which will shorten the amount of time between when a union files a representation petition and an election takes place to as few as 14 calendar days beginning on April 14. ABC is continuing their legal challenge to this rule.

Report Finds OSHA Underestimated Cost of Silica Rule by $4.5 Billion a Year
|
A new report released by the Construction Industry Safety Coalition (CISC) found that OSHA's proposed silica standards for construction will cost the industry $5 billion per year-roughly $4 .5 billion per year more than OSHA's estimates. The coalition cautioned that the flawed cost estimates reflect deeper flaws in the rule and urged the federal agency to reconsider its approach.

New NCCER Safety Technology Program Offered at ABC Carolinas Charlotte Starting In May
|
This program provides instruction on how to implement and administer a company safety program. The program is designed for field managers, safety directors, owner safety reps, and insurance/loss control representatives.
These classes will be held once a month beginning in May and running through September.
May 8: Intro to Safety Technology
June 12: Employee Motivation
July 10: Safety Orientation/Training
Aug. 14: Accident Investigation: Policies/Procedures
Sept 18: OSHA Inspection Procedures

LeChase Acquires C.W. Brown, Inc. to Join its Construction Services Business
|
LeChase Construction Services, LLC, a full-service construction management and general construction firm, is expanding its New York state operations with the acquisition of C.W. Brown, Inc. located in Armonk, N.Y., the two companies announced April 6th. Under the contract terms, which took effect on April 1, 2015, C.W. Brown will operate as a division of LeChase Construction, with the same workforce and market focus.

Construction Project Management NCCER Certification Program
The ABC's Construction Project Manager Course provides you and your managers the opportunity to improve their skills to work more efficiently, improve professionalism, and increase productivity.
Students will participate in an interactive, hands-on type of classroom environment. The course covers modules that are relevant to day to day project management by focusing on how to better communicate, resolving issues, construction documents, planning, scheduling and much more.
By completing all of these modules a National Center for Construction Education and Research, (NCCER), certification will be awarded, or these modules can be taken as individual courses to improve specific skills.
