JOYFUL SUNDAY and Stewardship Joy!

Feeling connected to the Church has been a way for me to feel closer to God in "Our family house".  That feeling has helped me on my most troubling days and then again in my most joyous times. One way that I feel connected is by the pledging of my treasures and talents.  Mine began years ago when my pledge was 25 cents in my Sunday school envelope, my mite box during Lent, and continues now as an adult member of the family. Each year I look at where I am and how the Lord has helped me to be there.  Then out of thankfulness I pledge to support the family mission of our church.

Another of my ways to assist in the mission of the Church is being involved with the stewardship ministry.  I have done this for a time and have participated in various forms of contacting people and inviting them to feel connected by making a pledge. I am not involved in the decision they make, I just provide the invitation. I would like everyone to enjoy the feeling that I have of connection.  And that is what making a pledge to the ministry of St Luke's Church can do.

I feel that joy of connection when bringing my pledge card to the altar on Joyful Sunday, and I have seen the same joy on faces of my family members when they bring their card to the basket.   Please consider joining our church family in the Joy and bring your pledge card to the basket this year for Joyful Sunday, November 16th, when we'll hold our pledge ingathering for the Church Family.

Stewardship Message ~

Something to consider as you contemplate your 2015 pledge to St. Luke's: If you pledged $30 per week to St. Luke's in 2010, just to keep up with inflation (+9.1%) you should have pledged $33 a week in 2014. Has your pledge kept pace with inflation?

Adult Forum

"Report from the Diocesan Convention"

On Sunday, October 26 our delegates who represented us at the Diocesan Convention will be at the Forum to talk about the convention and what earth-shattering things (resolutions, discussions - fights?!) took place during the convention. Our convention relates to the running of our diocese and ultimately how it participates as a part of the Episcopal Church and even the Anglican Communion.  Many (most?) of us may have become jaded regarding the running of institutions...like our government or even our church.  So - how do we stay engaged?  I am not truly sure how to answer that question nor do I think that hearing about our Diocesan Convention is something one would usually clamor to do!  But somehow, we do need to find a way to be involved with one another.  Join us at the Forum at 9:00 am on the stage area of the undercroft.

Next Sunday, November 2 - the Adult Forum will move into the second component of our year-long theme "In Search of Wholeness and Health." This Sunday will be an overview and introduction to "Vocation"...a word we may use a lot but not necessarily truly understand.

St. Luke's Youth Night of Ghoulish Fun!

Sunday, October 26th Youth Group will be hunting with the scavengers! Meet at 5 pm at Lakeview Cemetery (Buffalo St & Lakeview entrance) for a Halloween Scavenger Hunt. Afterwards, Kris Sowa has invited us to her house at 137 Beechview Ave for chili, donuts and cider!

Youth Ministry News

Kristen Sowa  --  Just a short while ago, in September, we welcomed Kristen Sowa as our youth ministry intern. Kris will soon be moving to Virginia to care for her grandmother, and regrettably leaving us. We have enjoyed her presence here at St. Luke's and with our young people, and she

says she will miss us, too.

Godspeed and Peace be with you, Kris, in this new adventure!

Blue Bag Ministry in October

Just an update that the goodies from the Blue Bags have been delivered to the Anew Center. It took many boxes and a few plastic bags.  It was SO impressive. Thank you to Wilma for the extra boxes from the thrift shop! The empty blue bags are folded in the sacristy.  Stacey from the Anew Center and I have been emailing back and forth and they are SO grateful! Wow.Wow. Wow. What a church community. So happy to be part of this group.

                           Peace, Rosie Papalia

Burgeoning Nursery!!

Maybe you haven't noticed, but the St. Luke's Nursery is bursting at the seams most Sundays with 6 to 8 babies and toddlers.  To accommodate the uptick in numbers, the Nursery will be moving over to the former "Music Room" on the Main St side of the undercroft starting on November 2nd.  The increase in children means that we need more hands to tend to them.  We have one paid Nursery Care Provider, but we need a volunteer each Sunday to assist both during the 9am Formation Hour and during the 10am worship service.          ~ Faithfully, Luke

ALL SAINTS' SUNDAY & BAPTISM, Nov 2

All Saints Sunday (November 2nd) is one of the designated dates in the church year that is especially appropriate for baptism. We will celebrate the service of Holy Baptism at the 10:00 service for all who desire to be baptized, or would like their children to receive baptism. Baptism is the rite of initiation into the Christian faith and full membership in the Church of God. All interested parties should contact the Rector by calling the church office 716-483-6405 or emailing luke.fodor@stlukesjamestown.org

At the All Saints services we will read the names of those who have died in the past year.  If you have a name you would like to be included, please contact the church office - 483-6405, or stluke@netsync.net.

Usher Meeting/Training on Nov 2nd

Calling all new and experienced ushers, we'll gather for refresher training and getting to know each other on November 2nd following the 10am service. Please let Luke know you are interested in becoming an usher, and if you will be able to attend this brief meeting  luke.fodor@stlukesjamestown.org

4th Street Cafe

Are you a Martha or a Mary? We need you both!

The 4th Street Café is looking for people like you! This ministry has a need for those who like to serve and those who are able to listen. We encourage you to learn more about our 4th Street Café and to consider helping out.

We'll hold an informal informational/training session on Sunday, November 9 following the 10:00 service.

Come and see - even if you are just curious.

Any questions, contact Barbara Bumsted at the church office, 483-6405 or barbara.bumsted@stlukesjamestown.org

Church Directory in Process

It's that time again, to pick up the pieces from our last attempt at producing a church directory and proceed under the guidance and direction of our new Rector ...he needs to KNOW who YOU are! Photographers will be on hand on three Sundays in November, the 9th, 16th and 23rd. What we'll also have, hopefully, is the last picture you had taken (which you can choose to use or have a new one) and the membership information available to us. This information is something that may need updating ... ie. addresses, phone #'s, emails, dates of birth, etc.

We'll also make arrangements to get out to our parishioners who cannot get here!
