Mary Elizabeth Bowden,Trumpet;

Milana Strezeva, Pianist;

Zenas Kim, Trombonist

Take three gifted women from three diverse points on the globe, educate them at some of the finest music schools in the world, and bring them together into one performance hall.  Wow, what an exquisite brass sound, only enriched by a lush keyboard. Illinois-born trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden holds degrees from Curtis Institute of Music and Yale School of Music, and won the 2012 International Women's Brass Conference Trumpet Competition. Moldovan-American pianist Milana Strezeva received her Bachelor and Master degrees from the Juilliard School, and is a founding member of the award-winning Manhattan Piano Trio, one of the most creative and dynamic young ensembles in America. South Korean trombonist Zenas Kim graduated from the New England Conservatory, received her Master of Music from Rotterdam Conservatory, and is currently obtaining her Doctorate at the University of Maryland. She is an international soloist, orchestral trombonist, and avid chamber musician. These "Lady Brass-hoppers" combine for a superlative concert you must attend.

Our last rotation of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit is "Self-Control". This rotation will start April 27 and end May 25. While we learn how Jesus demonstrated self-control we will play Pick-Up Stixs; memory verse match; make edible lady bugs (eewww!, crunch); create "stop, think, obey" door hangers; and view "Auto-B-Good" video.

Please come and join the fun and strengthen your self-control. June 1st will be our last day of Sunday school. Fruit cake will be the theme of the party. All the Fruits of the Holy Spirit will make an appearance that day!

YOUTH NEWS

The Youth Formation Steering Committee (YFSC) would like to establish a Community Service group for Sr. High aged Youth. We are looking for a few adults who might be interested in meeting with youth on a regular basis (intervals to be determined by the group itself) to help them fulfill their school's Community Service requirements. Adult volunteers would work hands-on with youth to help them find Community Service Opportunities and also help them keep track of their hours, etc. If you are interested in this opportunity to become more connected with the Youth of St Luke's, please email Cheri Krull @ cm.krull@gmail.com

Men's Group Events

      On Mother's Day, May 11, the Men's Group is hosting our Annual Mother's Day brunch after the 10AM service. Here is your chance to see the men in action as we are trying to prove that we really are adept in the kitchen:-)

      Due to scheduling problems, we are moving the annual "Paul Bunyan Day" woodcutting extravaganza to the fall. This will probably be in early October, although a firm date has not yet been fixed. We look forward to men of all ages and abilities participating. The wood is given to needy families, so this is not only a great deal of fun, but is an outreach for us as well.

but mercifully-not cook! )

Welcoming our New Rector and Family

Luke, Willow, Aidan and Kieran will be arriving in Jamestown late May.  Gael Grossman is putting together a "Cool Places" (with commentary) list for Willow.  If you are willing to provide a place with a description of why you like this place, and how beneficial it is, please send it to Gael Grossman.  .

EXAMPLE:

Wegmans (Fairmount Ave):  A great place to shop and get a variety of ingredients, OR ready-made food.

Prepared offerings including salads, pizza, sushi, and soups are available through the day.

Skating Rink (down town Jamestown): There are open hours for open ice skating, lessons, and more available. Skate rentals are reasonable. It's a great place to keep cool in the summer.

If you would like to contribute one or more place descriptions, please email me directly with your information. ggprof@gmail.com                          Thank you, Gael Grossman
