One Sunday a year, you could make a difference!

We have a wonderful problem here at St. Luke's.

Don't worry. It's not the kind where you need to alert the bishop, especially since he was just saying that it's so nice for him to look on the map and see Jamestown, and not need to worry about St. Luke's "down there."

The problem is that we have too many children for the number of volunteers that we have. And the thing is, there aren't that many children. We need MORE.

Recently, we have had several new families attending St. Luke's every Sunday, with children and babies, and not enough nursery workers and volunteer teachers to be with the children.

So Debbie Cardone and the kids in Sunday School have adopted a plan, "Helping Hands," and they are asking every member of the church to step up and volunteer ONE Sunday a year (yes, you read that right), to either be in the nursery during the 10 a.m. service or help out in the Sunday School class from 9-10 a.m.

For those of you who dedicated years of your life to teaching Sunday School, where you had to prepare a class every week for 30+ weeks, and miss church completely, this may seem a little bit ludicrous. ONE Sunday a year? You could do that standing on your head! And you don't even have to do the class preparation. Debbie and her wonderful assistants have that covered.

Just show up, and rock a baby, or tend another one while Sarah is consoling a crying one. Or if you want to be with the Sunday School class, you might keep a couple of kids from eating the paste and cutting each other's hair while you're there. But most of them don't dare, while Debbie is watching. (There's a lot of rhyming in that sentence; I must be channeling my inner Dr. Seuss!)

One Sunday a year. You get out of church, and don't have to listen to the sermon, and you might even make a difference in some kid's life!

      It's time to step up!

Thanks for offering                                   ~ Madre Liz

 ADULT FORUM

Join us at 9:00 am on the stage area of the undercroft.

On Sunday, April 13, the Forum will continue discussion regarding "Mindful Living/Mindful Faith".  The focus for this week will be prayer with a video from Barbara Cawthorne Crafton.  Join us at 9:00 on the stage area of the undercroft.

There will be NO Forum on Sunday, April 20 as that is Easter with one service at 10:00 and no Christian education that day.  The following Sunday, April 27, Greg Peterson will join the Forum to discuss one of our famous parishioners, Robert H. Jackson.

CHURCH SCHOOL

All school aged children are invited to join in Sunday Morning Church School program beginning at 9 am .... with breakfast available.  Debbie Cardone is our Church School Director and works hard to make each Sunday a fun learning experience for our kids.  As we continue through Lent the church school works to solve the "Lent Mystery," and learn about lessons in light and darkness, and struggles and sacrifices and what all this represents to us as Children of God.

SLY, Jr. meets again!

SLY Jr. will meet on Sunday, April 13th, following the 10 am worship service.  We will serve a somewhat nutritious lunch and then proceed to make communion bread (or burn down the kitchen - whichever comes first).  If there is time at the end, we will play a lively game or two.  Elisabeth and Tom Rankin will be the hosts and head bakers.             Kindest Regards,

Tom "Unleavened" Rankin

All kids in grades 3 - 6 are welcome to join us! Come!

Maundy Thursday Overnight Altar Watch

This year, we will again be observing the ancient practice of the Altar Watch, beginning at the end of the Maundy Thursday liturgy, around 9 p.m. and continuing for the 15 hours until the Good Friday noon service. We invite you to sign up in the vestibule for an hour- or two-hour block of time or by calling the office, and come Thursday night and sit in the church, pray or meditate, read or kneel before the altar. This is a time when you are being asked to stay with Jesus in his hour of need, and to contemplate what you already know will be the greatest sacrifice God has ever made for humankind.

Welcoming our New Rector and Family

Luke, Willow, Aidan and Kieran will be arriving in Jamestown late May.  Gael Grossman is putting together a "Cool Places" (with commentary) list for Willow.  If you are willing to participate please send Gael the name of restaurant, shopping, or fun place to visit and a few sentence commentary on it.

EXAMPLE:

Wegmans (Fairmount Ave):  A great place to get a variety of ingredients or ready-made food.  Prepared offerings including salads, pizza, sushi, and soups are available through the day.

Skating Rink (down town Jamestown): There are open hours for open ice skating, lessons, and more available. Skate rentals are reasonable. It's a great place to keep cool in the summer.

If you would like to contribute one or more place descriptions, please email me directly with your information. ggprof@gmail.com                          Thank you, Gael Grossman
