| An Invitation to Adult Forum
|
|
Dear Friends,
It has long been a favorite on my Sunday agenda to attend our 9 o'clock Adult Forum either after the 8 am service or before the 10 am service. There, with my sweetheart, a fresh cup of coffee, and the joyous expectation of having my intellectual lamp lit, I experience a kind of satisfaction I find almost nowhere else. It is there that we hear from priests, social workers, a bishop, nurses, Muslims, mayors, educators, political campaigners, planners, Franciscans, rabbis and almost anyone who could help us relate more effectively to the world Our Creator has given us to share. There are always questions followed by dialogue and often endearing banter among the assembled. Those meetings reaffirm our affiliation as a very real church family. By confirming each Sunday that we are a people who encourage questions, debate, and the exchange of ideas, the Forum actually enables me to better present myself as an Episcopalian. And that is a good reason to come to St. Luke's Church in the first place.
All this that I am so thankful for is shared with only a handful of eminently well qualified friends. All those assembled on the "stage" can be counted on one's fingers. Only occasionally might one need to remove a sock to complete that count. For me that is cause for real concern because there are far too many of our brothers and sisters in Christ missing out completely on something I find so fulfilling and personally rewarding. It's a joy I'd love to share. Certainly your reasons for not being there are valid. So how can we win you over? I suspect the serving of donuts would not suffice. What about rescheduling? Maybe our guest speaker could be introduced at the coffee hour and all who wanted to leave the kids in class and join the Forum could. Lunch? What are the chances you might be included? Maybe all you needed was to know what went on there. Let us know. Thanks for your time.
Yours in faith,
Peter Dawson

Adult Forum
|
On Sunday, April 21, we will bring Maureen Rovegno, Director of the Department of Religions at Chautauqua Institution back to the Forum to discuss summer line-up for the Department.
The following week, April 28, the Forum will be taking a look at how to use online (!?) resources for Bible study and meditation. This will be good for those who are familiar with navigating online and also for those who are not.

St. Luke's Parent Ministry
|
|
For parents of teens, led by parents of former teens!
We are here to help! Wednesday April 24th, 2013, we begin a new ministry in the form of a support group for parents of teens. This program is designed to give parents a safe place to vent, ask questions, talk to others like yourself, and generally have a good time with others who are struggling right alongside you. We have a vision to help you as parents of teens to survive and flourish through the adolescent years as well. This program will run concurrently with the Youth Program, 7-9 pm, so while your teen is in their safe space, you will have a safe space of your own to just be for a while. Please come and be a part of this group, and find that you belong. Our first meeting will be held in the church undercroft, then we'll talk of moving off premises if desired.

From the Rector Search Committee
|
|
The Search Committee is hard at work preparing for the recruitment of candidates for our Rector. The information you provided in the various surveys, has been tabulated and will become a part of the Church profile. There were several wonderful quotes, some of which will be included in the profile. Your contributions to this process have been very valuable and we are grateful.
We have another request. We are looking for photos of Church activities that can be used in the profile document and on the Website. We could also use photos of our community. We want to paint the picture of a community where a prospective Rector would want to live. The best way to provide us with photos would be a jump drive. If you have a good quality photo, we may be able to scan it in. You can give your photos to Jay McManus or any other member of the Search Committee.
Thank you for your support and prayers. We will continue to need it as we move forward.

Mothers' Day - May 12th
|
|
Mothers' Day Brunch
It gives the Men of St. Luke's great pleasure to invite all the mothers (and daughters of mothers) and their families to St. Luke's for our traditional Mothers' Day Brunch on Sunday, May 12th.
The brunch follows the 10:00AM service and features a medley of breakfast casseroles, fresh fruit, sweet rolls, orange juice, Mimosas and coffee. There is no need to make a reservation and there is no cost, so come let us honor the women in our midst.
Gentlemen of St. Luke's:
We, the Men of St. Luke's, take great delight in hosting the annual Mothers' Day Brunch on May 12th. There are plenty of opportunities to pitch in and help should you choose to join in the fun. Please sign up on the sheet in the undercroft, or see Chip Ulrich
(or call 763-7625).
