Fall Registration Open + Download the Brochure |
Register for courses online or call the OLLI office at 510.642.9934. Print brochures will arrive in mid-August, but a PDF of the brochure is online. Many courses will fill, so register early!
The fall term brings new faculty as well your favorite instructors from past terms. While the fall curriculum spans 12 subject areas, there are two thematic threads to highlight: sustainability and historical events and memory. The term will also provide members a forum to teach, with TEO (Teaching Each Other) and Horowitz's Great Piano Music of the 19th Century, both offered on Fridays.

OLLI Spotlight: K. Patricia Cross |
 | Patricia Cross |
K. Patricia Cross, Professor Emerita of Higher Education at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Education, is an internationally acclaimed scholar who has broken new ground in many areas involving research on lifelong learning, non-traditional students, and the open-door community college, and who has strengthened the linkages between research and practice.
In addition to being a member of OLLI, Cross participates in OLLI's Fourth Age Salons (a gathering of OLLI members over 80) and serves on OLLI's Advisory Research Team (ART), where her deep knowledge of higher education research gives invaluable insight to OLLI's research endeavors. Cross's contributions to ART include pushing the conversation to address current developments in education and technology, from the impact of hearing loss on learning to the emergence of massive online open courses (MOOCs) and how this phenomenon might be relevant for the older learner.
San Francisco State University has recently digitized an archive of 288 of Cross's speeches, which include a selection of speeches on lifelong learning. Visit the archive at https://diva.sfsu.edu/collections/kpcross.

The Lunch Bunch |
By Lucille Poskanzer
Chulo Indian and Nepali Cuisine
2160 University Ave., between Oxford St. and Shattuck Ave.
510.848.7252 | chulorestaurant.com
Looking for something a little exotic for lunch near University Hall? You could do worse than this place, which is just around the corner from the OLLI classrooms. It's one more downtown Indian restaurant with a decent low-priced lunch buffet, but the menu offers more than that, and the Nepali and Tibetan dishes are different and good. Try the momos for a special treat-they are cooked to order and arrive fresh and hot. Lots of vegetarian choices too. It is clean and quiet, and doesn't attract Berkeley High students.
