2010-11 ANNUAL FUND

Thanks to the 195 households who donated, we were able to raise $53,000 for the 2010-11 Annual Fund--a 10% increase over 2009-10! See the honor roll of 2010-11 donors.

"Refer a Friend" Raffle

Refer a friend to OLLI @Berkeley and get entered in a drawing to win a 2011-12 All-inclusive membership!

We are always looking for ways to spread the word about our programs, and our members are our best spokespeople. So, to encourage you to tell all of your friends to register for the Fall 2011 term, we're holding a raffle for one 2011-12 All-inclusive Membership.

Here's how it works:

  2. You register for Fall 2011.
  3. Enter both of your names in the drawing before Friday, September 16, at 5:00 pm. Visit our website for a link to the entry form.

Deadline to enter: Friday, September 16, at 5:00 pm

Winner announced: Tuesday, September 20

Note: If you have already registered for the fall term, you are still eligible to enter if you refer someone new who joins OLLI @Berkeley. See rules and FAQs.

Campus Partners

Every year since 2006, the College of Letters & Science at Berkeley has given incoming students something to talk about. That something has been a book, a film, and a theme. The theme for 2011 is linguistic diversity: the Voices of Berkeley. The keynote event, "Dreaming in Different Tongues: Languages and the Way We Think," takes place on Wednesday, September 14, at 7:30 pm, and is open to the public on a first-come, first-seated basis. Read more or watch the welcome video.

Instructors: Nikki Henderson, Executive Director, People's Grocery; Michael Pollan, Knight Journalism Professor, UC Berkeley

The 2-unit, upper division course will be open to 400 UC Berkeley students and open free of cost to 300 general public. Each week experts in their field will relate their discipline to the food system/movement from a variety of perspectives. Confirmed speakers include: Carlo Petrini, Peter Sellars, Marion Nestle, Frances Moore Lappé, Raj Patel, Ann Cooper, Eric Schlosser, and Alice Waters. Tickets will be released weekly on Ticketweb starting August 15.

Phil's Sliders

2024 Shattuck Ave, between University and Addison

Sliders, for those of you who do not know, are mini burgers, and they're just $2 each at this new small place very close to the OLLI classrooms. Two are plenty for lunch, especially if you also order the potato tots (trust me, they are really delicious!) and a creamy milkshake. The meat is Marin Sun Farms grass-fed beef, but they also offer portobello mushroom sliders. Everything is quite tasty. To order, fill out a paper form and take it to the counter. Service is prompt and friendly. If you are looking for something fast and fun, try this place.
