Life is an endless journey.
Getting to work shouldn't be.
Governor Martin O'Malley, Senate President Mike Miller and House Speaker Mike Busch's leadership in tackling Maryland's near-crisis transportation funding issue paved the way for the successful passage of the Transportation Infrastructure and Investment Act of 2013. The Central Maryland Transportation Alliance thanks the Maryland Legislature for passing the Act and supporting the critical need for the repair, maintenance and expansion of the State's transportation systems. As a result, Maryland now has the resources to not only move forward on major transportation and transit initiatives but also to virtually immediately expand service on the MARC Commuter Rail system that currently serves nine jurisdictions and DC. Expanding MARC operations, which can be accomplished quickly and at a relatively modest cost, will provide Maryland residents with significantly greater access to the more than 400,000 jobs in Central Maryland as well as the strong and growing employment opportunities in DC and Northern Virginia. To this end, it is imperative that expanding MARC service becomes a high priority in the allocation of funds from the Transportation Infrastructure and Investment Act of 2013. To help advance this, we urge you to contact your local elected officials to strongly recommend they include the MARC system at the top of their list for funding. They need to hear how vital it is for you - and all Marylanders - to use public transit to travel efficiently and affordably to and from major job centers throughout the region.
