Adapting to the Differences in Federal and State Appeals: The Honorable Duane Benton

The Honorable Duane Benton will be our speaker for our October SMBA lunch meeting.  Judge Benton has served on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit since 2004 and resides in Kansas City, however he was born in Springfield and is an enthusiastic member of the SMBA.   Judge Benton has had a distinguished career, serving on the Missouri Supreme Court and as director of the Missouri Department of Revenue prior to joining the federal bench. 
 
Following the Lunch there will be a dessert reception honoring Judge Mark Fitzsimmons on the occasion of his retirement at the end of October.

SMBA CLE:  Revised Criminal Code

This program will provide an in-depth look at the recent changes to the Criminal Code in the State of Missouri. Our speakers will begin by discussing the legislative background leading up to this comprehensive rewrite and the passage of the Revised Criminal Code by the General Assembly this year. A panel of experienced criminal law attorneys will analyze changes to the law and provide perspective from the vantage point of prosecution and defense. 

Judicial Evaluation Results Available Online
Judges who serve under the Missouri's Non-Partisan Court Plan run in retention elections at the end of their term. They are evaluated by one of seven different committees, either an Appellate Judicial Evaluation Committee or a Circuit Judicial Evaluation Committee. Learn about the evaluation process, criteria of the judicial performance evaluations and members of the evaluation committees.
