Carrier Robing and Administration of Oath

SMBA member Ron Carrier will be sworn in Friday, November 15 at 3:00 p.m. in the Ceremonial Courtroom of the Greene County Judicial Courts Facility. Carrier will take the bench as Associate Circuit Judge, Division 26, and the 31st Circuit will, for the first time in history, have a total of ten judges. Following the ceremony refreshments will be provided by the Springfield Metropolitan Bar. SMBA members and the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.


Harpool Confirmation Hearing Wednesday

SMBA Doug Harpool's confirmation as United States District Judge for the Western District of Missouri is scheduled for hearing by the United State Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday, November 6, 1:30 p.m. (Central Time). The hearing will be available by webcast. (webcast link)

31st Circuit Judicial Commission Election Results in Run-Off
The official results will be sent to Missouri's Secretary of State and Clerk of the Supreme Court within ten days, however according to Greene County Circuit Clerk Steve Helms, a total of 436 votes were cast with the following tally: Douglas Fredrick 71, Steve Garner 212, James Hayes 20, Michael Patton 132, and one write in vote cast for Don Woody. Since no candidate received a majority vote, there will be a run-off election between Steve Garner and Michael Patton, Dec. 7th. The term of the winner will begin January 1, 2014.

Woody Elected to Appellate Judicial Commission
Donald E. Woody has been elected to the Appellate Judicial Commission for a term commencing January 1, 2014. Woody received 508 votes, Christopher Hatley received 125 votes, and seven write in candidates received one vote each. The term of the present Southern District attorney member, Mr. John Wooddell, expires December 31, 2013.
