Thereafter, Governor Jay Nixon will have sixty days to appoint one of the three nominees as Associate Circuit Judge. Members of the Commission are William W. Francis, Jr., Chief Judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District; attorneys Clifton Smart and Andrew K. Bennett; and lay members Linda F. An election for the open position will be held November 2, 2013. Missouri Bar members residing in Greene County are eligible to run. Interested parties must submit their nominating petition by October 3, 2013. Appellate Judicial Commission Election, Southern District As of December 31, 2013, the term of Mr. John Wooddell, elective member of the Appellate Judicial Commission, Southern District, will expire. An election for the open position will be held November 2, 2013. Missouri Bar members residing in the Southern District are eligible to run. SMBA Executive Director Appointed to ABA Committee SMBA Executive Director Crista Hogan has been appointed to serve a three year term on the American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Judicial Independence (SCJI). Hogan was appointed by ABA President James R. Silkenat who said "Crista's leadership on legal profession and justice system issues in Missouri will add significantly to the Committee's efforts in the coming year." The SCJI assists courts and judiciaries as well as bar associations in responding to infringement of judicial independence. The committee encourages public awareness of the importance of judicial independence, and recommends improvements designed to enhance institutional independence and efficiency of the judiciary system. Hogan will also serve as liaison to the National Association of Women Judges in their Informed Voter Project.
