31st Circuit Gets Judge, Governor Signed Bill Yesterday 

After years of topping the state's list demonstrating the greatest need for additional judges, yesterday Governor Jay Nixon signed Senate Bill 100, authorizing an additional associate circuit judge for Greene County. Funding for that position was secured in HB12, signed by the governor last week. "This is an important day in advancing access to justice in our community", said SMBA Executive Director Crista Hogan, "we are grateful for all who have worked toward this goal for several years and especially our local delegation, led by Missouri Senator Bob Dixon who chaired the Judiciary Committee. The leadership of Senator Dixon, as well as SMBA member and State Representative Kevin Elmer provided the catalyst for this important measure."

Reminder from Court of Appeal Clerk Sandra Skinner 

Special Rule 1 of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District now requires that any request for oral argument be made in a separate pleading captioned "Request for Oral Argument." The prior rule that allowed such a request to be made by including it on the cover of a party's brief is no longer in effect. As a result, a failure to request oral argument in accordance with Special Rule 1 will result in the case being submitted solely on the parties' written briefs.
