National News-
US household wealth hits new high in first quarter 

Rising stock markets and home prices helped lift U.S. household wealth to a record in the first three months of the year.

The Federal Reserve says household net worth increased $1.5 trillion in the first quarter to $81.8 trillion. The gain was driven by higher home prices, which boosted Americans' home values $758 billion. A rising, if choppy, stock market pushed up stock and mutual fund holdings $361 billion.Checking account balances, pensions plan assets and retirement savings, such as 401(k)s, also rose. READ MORE


State News- Nearly 50 homes purchased through NJ Sandy buyout program to be demolished in coming weeks
Demolitions started today on three homes in Sayreville purchased through a state-run Hurricane Sandy buyout program, state officials said, marking the first of nearly 50 properties that will be razed in the storm-ravaged community in the coming weeks. More than 190 homeowners in Sayreville and South River have so far accepted buyout offers from the state Department of Environmental Protection, with closings completed on 116 of those properties. The state ultimately aims to purchase 1,300 homes in flood-prone areas through the $300 million Blue Acres program and preserve the land as open space to serve as buffers against future storms. Local News- NBCUniversal Cuts ribbon on $17 million facility in Englewood Cliffs

NBCUniversal intends to bring a little slice of the Silicon Valley to Bergen County, and a parade of dignitaries was on hand Tuesday to cheer the company on as it cut the ribbon for its new Technology Center in Englewood Cliffs.

A $17 million renovation of the 63,000-square-foot building has brought technologies such as ultra-high-definition television and 3D printing to the site, along with more than 300 new jobs - raising the total at the site to 1,200 people.

Members heard from Senate Minority Leader, Thomas Kean, Senator Raymond Lasniak, and Senate President, Stephan Sweeney on plans to reduce the realty transfer fee as well as issues related to the NJ state budget, The Sandy Bill of Rights, affordable housing and foreclosures. Legislators introduce Sustainable Water Infrastructure Act in Cliffside Park

Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (NJ-9) and U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) met with residents in Cliffside Park on Monday to outline legislation they have introduced in Washington, D.C. to address New Jersey's aging water infrastructure. At a news conference, they spoke of their newly introduced bill which would make it simpler for municipalities to get funding for water system repairs. Specifically, their Sustainable Water Infrastructure Investment Act of 2014 would "remove the federal cap on municipal bonds used to pay for sewerage and water system upgrades." The Sustainable Water Infrastructure Investment Act of 2014 would make funds more readily available, thus enabling the water company to upgrade their systems faster.
