NAR Launches New Public Awareness Campaign on 2/11 

  

NAR's Public Advocacy Campaign will launch its new commercial, "Dreams," on Monday, Feb. 11. In addition to the TV and radio ads that will run as part of NAR's national media buy, the campaign includes print and digital materials that you and your members can use in your local market.
NJ Adopts New FEMA Flood Maps Post Sandy
 
On January 24, in a move designed to speed recovery from Superstorm Sandy, New Jersey adopted new advisory base flood elevation maps issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to aid in recovery from the storm, and amended its flood hazard rules to apply the new maps to the rebuilding efforts. NJ adopted the advisory maps by way of emergency rulemaking and adoption by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Reaching Your Business Across the Globe   

Interested in taking your business global-without getting on a plane? Many United States-based practitioners have forged close and lucrative ties with international clients in a steadily growing segment of the real estate business.   A survey of REALTORS® released in June 2012 showed that sales to international clients accounted for nearly 5 percent of all U.S. sales. NAR Research estimates those sales-made in the 12 months ending in March 2012-totaled $82.5 billion in volume. Even at only 5 percent of all sales, that's still a big chunk of business. Just over 25 percent of REALTORS® say they're working with international clients. Are you one of them? If not, maybe it's time to arm yourself with information you need to serve the global  market. 


Tech & Legal: Are Your E-Mails Binding?

 

There are steps you can take to protect yourself against inadvertently binding your client to a deal. Here are two suggestions:

  • Watch what you say in e-mails: If you're representing the seller, always say that the terms of the deal must be approved by the seller and that negotiations are preliminary until an offer or contract is signed. Conversely, if you are representing the buyer, it's prudent to push for confirmation that a deal has been reached, to avoid a situation, like the Massachusetts case, in which the seller jumps at a higher offer at the last minute.
  • Use a disclaimer: You can insert a disclaimer in your e-mail signature that looks something like this: "E-mails sent or received shall neither constitute acceptance of conducting transactions via electronic means nor create a binding contract until and unless a written contract is signed by the parties."
