News and Updates
Juggling Work and Caregiving

Holding a job and caring for a frail or ill older family member at home can be a huge challenge as caregivers attempt to balance competing demands on your time and energy. As our population ages, more families than ever are providing this care. According to studies, as many as 42 percent of working Americans - more than 54 million people - have provided eldercare in the last five years; 17 percent currently provide care. The average age of caregivers is 49 - a peak year for earnings and for career achievement. Women take on slightly more responsibility for care, but men are greatly impacted, as well. A recent article by Kathleen Kelly of Family Caregiver Alliance offers guidance on how to balance your career with meeting the needs of an aging family member. This concise article offers a very helpful list of ideas, advice and easy to access resources.

Community Living Campaign Logo on green background

The nonprofit Community Living Campaign (CLC) has been working since 2007 to deliver programs and rally advocates who want to live in communities where people are less isolated and everyone is called to contribute.

CLC reweaves the relationships that people need to age and thrive in their own communities. We believe that seniors and people with disabilities are their own valuable assets -- they already know what their community needs. Working with these neighbors and local organizations, CLC develops free and low-cost programs to:

  • Reduce isolation
  • Increase access to technology
  • Promote advocacy and other skills
  • And make new friends

Because aging in community requires change at all levels, we also advocate for better, more realistic local, state and national government policies and funding.
