Tree Ring Fund Update
We are grateful. Last month, over 168 donors contributed to the Tree Ring Fund, building awareness of our mission and the work of Tree Ring Productions. This was an "all or nothing" crowd funding campaign to create videos for ten Bay Area nonprofits. Since it didn't quite meet the funding goal, all donations have been returned to the donors.
But Tree Ring Productions has not given up and neither have we. Having a video is a very important way to help us tell our story and make our communities better places to live and age.
Working on a smaller scale, we are joining together with Tree Ring Productions and two other great nonprofits to fund three videos: one each for Bay Localize, Local Clean Energy Alliance, and Community Living Campaign. You can read more about this new Tree Ring Trio on Tree Ring's blog.
Tree Ring Produtions will still honor the original perks at each donation level and would love to count you among the faithful who are helping to write a new story of renewal and success!

Preventive Care Revolution Depends on Closing the Digital Divide
As our health care system continues to put more emphasis on preventive care, those who lack
digital skills, confidence or access will lag far behind in terms of being able to manage their own health. Read an interesting article about what the Tinder Foundation in Britain is doing, in partnership with their National Health Service, on our SF Healthy Aging Blog. For those with basic computer skills, CLC is offering a class on how to access health information safely online with instructor Lee Ellen Shoemaker as a part of CLC's On The Road Series. For more information, contact Judy Auda at 826-3194. |

Does Memory Change with Age? Clues from the Work of Neuroscientists
Where did I put my glasses? Where is that book I was reading - or - did I finish it? Why did I drive in this direction? What is her name? Sound familiar?
Ever wonder if you are simply experiencing normal aging or are going into some sort of dementia? Are these brain lapses from lack of sleep or exercise or caused by depression or a medication?
Time to get some answers from Dr. Joel Kramer, Director of the UCSF Memory and Aging Center Neuropsychology Program, who will speak to the Older Women's League of San Francisco about the ways in which aging and certain diseases affect memory and other cognitive abilities, followed by a question and answer session.
Saturday, March 15th, 10:00 to 12:00 Noon
The Flood Building, 870 Market Street, Room 1185
Everyone is welcome. Bring your lunch and stay afterwards to talk with old friends or to meet new ones. The space is handicapped accessible.

Community Connectors - Organizers in Action
The February Aging While Black Forum in Visitacion Valley was sponsored by CLC and Reducing Stigma and featured the speakers (pictured clockwise at right): Wanda Materre, Makulla Goodwin, LaVaughn King and Uverda Harry. See more pictures by Etta Jones, Bayview Community Connector, and an article by Deloris McGee, who started these annual events, on our SF Healthy Aging Blog. These forums and so much more have been developed out of our Food Delivery networks in the OMI, Bayview and Parkmerced neighborhoods.
Rev. Glenda Hope, Community Connector for the Cayuga neighborhood and leader with the SafeHouse, Older Woman's League, Taxpayers for Public Safety and so much more as a part of the Woman's History Month, will be honored by the Board of Supervisor on Tuesday, March 4, 3:30 as a part of the annual Women's History Month Celebration in an Award ceremony at the Board of Supervisors chambers. CLC Connectors and volunteers turned out in force, along with our friend and colleagues in SF Connected, to host a computer outreach program at the February IHSS Public Authority. See pictures and some of the new things we will bring our the next Swap Meet at our SF Healthy Aging Blog. Connections for Healthy Aging Workshop recently co-hosted a series with the Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California. Guest presenters included Tom Barrett of the SF Transitional Care Program. We are taking a break to do some planning and fundraising to expand the workshop series. The next session is planned for May at OpenHouse.

Featured Blog of the Month -
MissionLocal started as a project of U.C. Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, but at the end of February, UC Berkeley spun off the project with hopes that the community will be able to continue it.
We applaude the efforts of Professor Prof. Lydia Chavez's in creating and developing this site and working for its future. Readers have appreciated their unique commitment - "Mission Local believes that by covering a neighborhood fairly and thoroughly, they can build community and a sustainable model for quality journalism."
