Worried about the Lack of Affordable, Accessible Housing in SF?
The City's increasing prosperity has escalated fears that those who helped make this City the wonderful, diverse, tolerant place that it is may not be able to grow old here. The Mayor's Disabilities Council has crafted a resolution aimed at turning the tide before it is too late. Carla Johnson, Director of the Mayor's Office on Disability (MOD), presented a draft resolution to the San Francisco Long Term Care Coordinating Council, winning their support. The Community Living Campaign has also endorsed the resolution.  Please consider presenting this MOD Affordable and Accessible Housing Resolution to organizations you belong to, as a way to better focus our advocacy and organizing for a more powerful impact over the coming months.

CLC took its popular empowerment training to the Bayview in November.
Pictured from left to right: Attorney Sara answered questions about Advanced Directives. Etta Jones shared her story about the importance of learning how to survive a stroke. LaVaugh King and Rev. Impress the Young People in Your Life - Talk about Hip Hop
Take a minute to learn about something new - like blogs and Hip Hop.  Last month, Community Connector Judy Auda invited her nephew Ben Cohn to share his internationally known website Da-What.com with seniors at 360 Valencia.  Ben and his friends review albums, conduct interviews, and post downloads and videos - all the while introducing readers to good music new and old.  Check out what Judy has planned for 360 Valencia on Mondays in December

At Home With Growing Old...A Design Initiative Starting At A Grass Roots Level.

AHWGO was started in 2009 in the San Francisco Bay Area by Susanne Stadler, an architect, and Natasha Boissier, a social worker, to promote an interdisciplinary dialogue among experts, thinkers, activists and designers on the topic of aging. A network of people now work together to solve problems and suggest solutions for our society to be at home with growing old.

The AHWGO group meets the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Donna Schempp, the former Program Director of Family Caregiver Alliances in San Francisco, is the co-organizer of this group.  If you are interested in participating either physically or online, send an email to info@athomewithgrowingold.com. They welcome comments, articles, ideas and inspirations, from profiles of people in their second stage of life to policy initiatives on city and national levels that will impact and inspire how people experience aging.
