CLC is a proud member of CARA, a fair and progressive voice in California.  The day started with a press event asking congress to end the Federal government shutdown and pass a smart budget.  We also enjoyed a Keynote address by Dr. William Vega from USC talking about Elder Economic Security.

CLC was invited to present a mini-version of our Connections for Healthy Aging Workshop, and we packed the hall for two sessions. Our next full workshop with space available starts

CLC Food Networks Receive Funding for Another Year

Neighbors packing food boxesLast week, the Aging and Adult Services Commission approved funding for another year for the Food Networks in the Ocean-Merced-Ingleside (OMI) neighborhood, Park Merced and University Park Apartment area, and Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco.

Community Living Campaign has developed Food Networks to
reach out to seniors 80 years and older, A young volunteer with boxas well as to adults of any age who have a disability that prevents them from standing in food pantry lines. A CLC Connector organizes each neighborhood network, but the program depends on a core  team of neighborhood volunteers. In addition to food deliveries, these neighbors develop trust and relationships that reintegrate participants with their community, connecting them with formal services and more informal support.  We look forward to continuing to strengthen and to expand the program over the coming year to the Richmond and other neighborhoods in the southern part of the City.

BTOP Funding Ends, SF CONNECTED Continues
A united "Keep Us Connected" Campaign convinced the Mayor and Board of Supervisors to allocate funding to keep the BTOP computers running and trainers training for another 21 months. After a competitive proposal process, funding was allocated to Community Technology Network, Conard House, Self Help for the Elderly, Community Living Campaign, Reliatech and the National Council on Aging to continue the work and to look for ways to sustain it for the long haul.  SF Connected is now a locally funded program that can be better tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities in San Francisco.
